PHUGHES congratulations on your decision to go visti Nepal!

1. First things first, you can look up the travel agencies in sajha home page. Currently they all should have a special deal from Turkish airlines for around $900 for two way from NYC. You might have to pay some extra to fly from indiana. Request a Bassinet seat for the infant and check in to make sure all of you can be seated together. Sometimes if you are late in getting ticket, the seating may not be together which would suck since it's a long flight. Make sure to check how many baggage are allowed and how much wt limit.

Even after getting ticket from travel agency, you can call the airline to check on what are acceptable to take for infant.

2. You might want to get your visa application ready so you don't have to wait at Nepal airport for visa. http://www.nepalembassyusa.org/visa.php

3. Phones. You will need to get your phones unlocked by your cell phone carrier so you can use it in NEpal. You can only use your phone if your phones have GSM capabilities which mean you need to be able to insert new SIM card in there. Then u can get a sim card from NCELL i found they work good. It's easy to buy recharge cards to put more time into ur card. You will need to put extra money for internet usage on phone.

Good luck!

Caution: Don't get into the trap of travel agency. Research what exactly you want Which route you want to go, buy ticket from reliable source. I have heard horror stories about these travel agency listed in sajha.

You should get GSM phones. Generally, Atnt and verizon iphones are GSM, but you will need to call your service providers to unlock your phones for international use.

Then, when you get to Nepal you can get your relatives to buy a sim card from Ncell. Then you can buy recharge cards to add money to your account. From this money, be sure to deposit money for 3G web use, if you don't put in the money for 3G web use, Ncell will deduct Rs 6 every time you use web from your phone. You should purchase 100 MB at once for about Rs 140 - you do it by proportioning the recharge money to the web use by dialing some code like *90099# or something, and it should last you for a while depending upon your use. Also, generally it's a good idea to turn off cellular data from your phone settings so that your phone does not keep on auto updating your emails, FB, and other applications automatically because that could drain your data plan.

For transits, some airports have free wifi or you get 30 minutes free wifi. Also there will be free stalls where they have computers with internet access for free, where you can charge your phones/ipads/laptops. In Delhi, they had a weird system where you have to enter your phone number and they would text you the log info for free 30 minutes. I had to put my US verizon phone on Roaming to get the access code. Some charges may apply if you have to do this!

I am not sure about internet to go devices, but most of the airports do have some kind of internet setup you can use without having to pay. If worst comes to worst you can always use your credit card to purchase wifi. Any kind of device such as iphone, android, ipad or tablets and/or laptops would work. Personally, I think ipads are nice and give worry free performance, but be careful of concrete floors succeptible of breaking the ipad screen as it happened to me, but thankfully they could repalce the screen in bishal bajaar for Rs 5000 so it wasn't too bad.

Good luck with the travels!

Mr Neo, thanks a lot! I have not been back in Nepal since 10 years. how much tablets/ ipads/ laptops/ I phones cost down there in nepali rupees? and which departmental stores I need to go? I am asking all these questions as I don't have much family down there. so I will be getting minimal help. we were planning to get some if it is affordable. do they have departmental stores for the babies ? if I have to buy diapers, formula, clothes, strollers or other baby items? on October 2nd week around dasain - December 1st week, in Nepal, what kind of weather its gonna be like? is it good months to go for trekking/ hiking ? can u suggest any travelling agency for tour of Kathmandu and outside if we pal to go for? me, my husband and kids are us citizens. I got newyork consulate office and got information abt applying for tourist visas for us. I called couple of travelling agencies like peaceland travels, aeronepal, airzone travels. they said all Turkish airlines tickets are sold out for month of October but they do have cathy pacifics, Qatar airways and the price are outrageous for 4 of us. which one will be the best, fair and shortest route to take from US- Nepal? even Qatar airways have long transit in Doha but they donot provide hotel, its rough with 2 small kids. how much us dollars I can carry as cash ? is it best to make travel checks through the bank and how much is the dollars limit? is it best to take foreign currency Nepalese rupees from here or we can exchange in tribhuwan airport? how and where I need to contact in case we have death threats in Nepal, or chances of getting kidnapped or abducted,if we loose passports, in emergency situations? is that homeland security/ us embassy Nepal/ newyork or dc counselee office? please advise. I know its too many questions and ur help will save our trip. neo, is there anyemail address that I can contact u/ ph no that me and my husband can talk to ya? thanks!

HI the phone which you are having might work in Nepal only if it is unlocked one .Else if the phone is locked to some other network provider then you can't use it in Nepal until you unlock it .You can easily unlock your phone using sites like UnBBlock.com here they are rendering unlock code for all blackberry mobile models at reliable cost .Else if you want to unlock some other mobile model then have a look at sites like MobileUnlockSolutions.com here they are rendering unlock code for all mobile models at reliable cost .After unlocking your phone you can freely use it with any GSM sim in Nepal...
