I dont have the exact answer for your concern. HOwever, if you are making new passport i strongly suggest you to have a MRP passport.

MRP is machine Readable Passport. Few helpful links:
http://dopmofa.gov.np/faq/24/ ( This link used to work earlier but now its not. May be later it will come up again. Smh!!!)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machine-readable_passport

Could not get any more info than above. May be we should get more info w.r.t Nepalese passport. Please update this thread if anyone has some info or did this recently.

Embassy accepts 2 by 2 color photo (they need 3 copies). Don't stick the photo in the form. Send it with the form paper clipping it. They will do the necessary adjustments. Be clean while filling the forms and don't forget to send a return envelope with your recent US address on it. Nepalese Embassy can actually send you the form if you cannot find A4 size paper here in the US. Along with it, they will also send a paper with detailed outline about how to fill out the application and photo requirements. Just follow those guidlines properly, you should be fine. It takes about 3 months to complete the whole process.

Atomic,Don't worry too much. You got to send "original" passport for renewal. I sent copy of Nepali citizenship and that worked.Sending original will expedite the process (that's what I heard). Unlike government officers in Nepal, staff in Nepal Embassy are very responsive and helpful. Don't hesitate to call them if you need any assistance.

Like Mech said, sending in all the original documents will expedite the process. If you only send in the copies, it'll need to get verified and that's gonna elongate the process. Unlike corrupted govt. officials in Nepal, I found those working here portraying themselves as thorough professionals. They were even considerate enough to rectify some errors on my application w/o sending it back to me.

Bear in mind, the process can take up to 3 months. There's also an option to get it expedited but you'll have to cough up $300 (twice as much as the normal processing fees).

Dear users,
I am planning to renew my passport. If there is no A4, can we print passport form on 8.5" x 12" or 14". I followed the printing guideline but I guess my paper size is different. When we can renew passport, < 1 year expiration date?

Thanks for your help

dindukhi, write an email to Nepalese Embassy and explain them that you couldn't find A4 size paper(it's really tough to find A4 size paper in the US). In the email, provide them your recent US mailing address. They will mail the A4 size application form along with the guidelines. Usually it is safe to apply earlier than just waiting the last date of expiration. I will say 6 months prior to expiration works well with many.
