If you work with american co-workers then learn to watch Football(not soccer). I have worked with different companies and they just LOVE to talk about football, draft picks, QBs etc. Football season is coming in fall so it's best time to update your knowledge. It's the best way to mingle with them. Later you will love this game. Many friends of mine love cricket and soccer. I am not against those sports and I love them too but people over here do not watch those games and not interested at all. Also magorkhe1 said never bring your own lunch. This will just alienate you from the co-workers. Go lunch together. It will cost you few extra $ but it's worth it. You may be very fresh to US corporate world but after 2-3 years you will know that social connection is the most important skill to climb corporate ladder. But that doesn't mean you should stop learning new technologies. Yes you surely do but my point is social connection skill is as important as technical skills. These days, just having superior technical knowledge is not enough. You should be socially attached to co-workers. If you have old co-workers then always listen to them until they finish talking. They get very agitated if someone cut while they are talking. Never ever make a judgement based on race & color. When I start working with my co-worker I always start my discussion with sports. This helps to make us comfortable.

Lokay.. I dont know why everyone is more focused on lunch, dishes, games and what not. I am a .net developer myself. Grow more interest in coding logic, try to get how and why things are working.. once you understand you will have more ineterest and learn quick. I never went out for lunch with collegues( be it american/hispanics/indians), i dont know how football works either but have maintained myself in completing couple of projects in two years career. Don't talk much when it comes to things you dont know and google your heart out .. and you will survive.

srana, we never said that you need to stop learn coding. Yes you definitely need to keep on learning. You are saying you have been working as .NET developer for 2 years. Yes 2 years is fair amount of time exploring the technology but you will soon hit the ceiling for sure. I used to be like you, a pure coding junkie, back in the days. Always in front of computer and never went to lunch/dinner with colleagues. But that hurt me a lot in long run. If you know people personally then it will be easier for you to switch between companies with higher pay otherwise you will be always treated like "Just another Company co-worker"

gorkhe bro, I heard its hard to find a job in QA these days. I'm trying to learn JAVA myself at home for few months and then knock at some consultancy's door. Are there any other options beside QA and programming?
