I am F-1 student and have social security which says allow to work with DHS authorization only.

Recently I applied for TPS and EAD. TPS is still pending but I got the EAD approval. Do I need to replace/update my social security before I start work using EAD ?

How is that even possible? TPS is pending but EAD is approved??!! That's weird!! Is your EAD also through TPS or from some other medium?

I had lost mine so I replaced it. I think you still have to update your status to SSA. Once you have EAD you can start working.

EAD is DHS authorization to work. Social security statement "allow to work with DHS authorization only" remains same until you get green card.

@ Raastriyata: I applied EAD through along with TPS. When I check my case no for TPS application it says 'fingerprint received' whereas I already got EAD card on my hand. I don't know if it is strange but I know few people who have situation as mine.

@ Biomed: Mangale says I have to update my status and sounds like you are saying I don't have to. Could you please make it more clear ?

I had EAD through OPT before, my SS remained same and ... never formally updated my status to SSA but there is no harm to do so :)
