@Usboro: in your case, unless you have US citizenship, even with Greed Card, you are still a Nepalese citizen, and the only passport you can have is a Nepalese passport. So, there will not be any question from US immigration officer or anyone as to 'Nepali Passport kina banayako bhanera sodcha ki vanera ho'..... you're a Nepali citizen, Nepal ko passport nabanayera kaha ko passport bahaune ta..... @Khoosbu: even though you have obtained your Green Card through asylum, you can legally travel to India. There should not be any issues at port of entry while returning from India visit for a Green Card holder based on asylum approval. The only restriction, I am sure which you are aware of, is not to visit Nepal. However, if you're still concerned be prepared with explanation like - the purpose of your India trip (like visiting different places, visiting friends/family), where did you stay (hotel info etc.), pictures from India trip, or any documentation/receipts/reservations related to your trip - just in case you're asked casually by an immigration officer at port of entry. Good Luck.

Thanks @SuperSixNine. m back from India already :) @Khoosbu: I had my travel documents along with me while I traveled to India almost every time but they never asked for it. Nepali MRP Passport should be enough. They will ask you couple random questions about your trips, whereabouts and nothing more. Good luck with ur trip. U will be more than fine.

Thanks @SuperSixNine and @usboro. So, I don't need to get travel documents at all or it is safe to have one. Can I just travel anywhere except Nepal with only my nepali passport and GC?

@Khoosbu. Not sure why they don't ask for travel documents. never heard from anyone with same case where they ask for TD. But it is clearly mentioned on USCIS link under Refugee Travel Document section which mentions GC granted through Asylun need TD to travel document to return to the United States. So you have to decide between 1) Travel experience from people like me 2)Apply for TD, 60-90 days to receive your TD, It also depends when you are travelling. Here is the link from USCIS. https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/green-card-processes-and-procedures/travel-documents (Go to Refugee Travel Document section )

as usboro said , No TD needed if you have valid nepali passport. TD is expensive and you have to apply indian Visa to travel from TD.

@usboro , Did you get visa to India on your travel document or just used your passport ? I am on the similar boat and planning to travel to India. I have also not renewed my passport yet and was planning to apply for travel doc instead. Can anyone share their experience if they travelled to India on travel document and no passport ?

I applied travel document just to make sure I comply with USCIS rules. I do not think India will stamp visa on either our Nepali passport or TD as both of them will show our birth country is Nepal. My suggestion would be apply NP or both.

Usboro , to go india with TD you need to apply visa for india. I have seen my friends doing that. So i recommend MRP. Because its cheaper and no need for visa to india. And haven't heard any issue with people who use MRP yet today.

Thanks usboro and insagram. You guys are awesome. I should try to see if I can get my MRP renewed. One last question usboro: I assume when you leave states, you get your passport stamped at port of departure as leaving states and when you return , it gets stamped again as arrival. Did you use your passport or rtd on states port of entry and departure.
