I am thinking of leaving my 2 years old in Nepal (probably two full years) while I go back to school here in US. As you know she has US passport, but I have Nepali passport with green card, so my question is how hectic the travel is with a toddler (she is usually clingy). Also, is there any extra documentation that I need to enter to Nepal or exit US? Please share your experience if you have been through this.
Thanks

1. If your child is travelling with grandparents or only one parent, please google and complete an AFFIDAVIT OF PARENTAL CONSENT For Travel Outside The United States Of A Minor Child Without Both Birth Parents Traveling. You will probably never be asked for it, but my son needed it in a train in Paris.

2. Completing application for Nepal visa online (https://online.nepalimmigration.gov.np/tourist-visa). this will shorten the process at Kathmandu immigration. They grant only short stay visa (used to be free for toddlers) at the airport and later you can extend the gratis visa.

There may be additional things you may need. Just sharing my experience (not recent though). Walking (=running for toddler) before boarding usually helps them sleep during flight but every child is different. Kids learn a lot in Nepal with extended family. Best wishes!!

My son had to live with my wife for couple of months because of family emergency - sharing my experience based on that. I believe all you need is a picture of the kid for on arrival Visa. Make sure you request bassinet when you are booking your flight. That will give you a place where your kid can sleep on the flight and you get a shut eye. Try an choose airlines based out of Asia or Middle East (i.e. Thai, Korean, Qatar) - their hostess are very good with kids and keep them entertained. I believe kids get free VISA on arrival and that can be extended. The grand parents can go to immigration office with kid passport and get it renewed.

Nepal recently introduced reciprocity visa policy with US. Every US citizen Get 5 yrs of multiple entry visa, with max 6 months of stay per visit. The flat one time visa fee is around ~$160. For extended stay, i believe you might need periodic stay extension. Pls verify yourself.
