Namaste sabai jana lai,

I am trying to help one of the sister who is in TPS status. She has been in TPS since 2015. She wants to re-register as her TPS is about to expire i.e. June 2024. She knows that USCIS has auto-extended until June 2025 but she needs to reregister otherwise she will lose the status. I am helping her with registration online with a USCIS Account. As I don't want to screw her filling and do it in the right way.

Can anyone just guide me if the following is the right process to do it?
1. Create a USCIS account
2. File Form I-821 ( https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/i-821.pdf)
3. Choose Option: Reregistration Application for TPS
4. Upload all the previous documents ( TPS Approved Card )

My question is
1. How to pay the fee? If she is filling online. I guess the fee is $465. Correct me if I am wrong.
2. If she has a work permit does she need to apply again for EAD Card. With her current TPS EAD Card, she has been able to work. If she needs to continue do she needs to reapply for EAD again.
2. Is there anything that I missed to mention or missed the steps

Documents Needed:
1. Passport PDF
2. I-94
3. Does she need to show proof of residence in the USA from 2015?

What else I am missing? Just trying to do it in the right way and help the sister out?

Any of you who have personally filled please help me out here. As I try to be helpful as much as I can to her?

Jai Nepal

1. Once you complete the application you should get the option to pay the fee. It will tell you how much to pay. Just for TPS it should be less than 100 dollars.
2. If you want to continue working, you need to apply for EAD. The current one will expire after June 30, 2024. It’s better to file it together with TPS.

I would suggest you to create USCIS account and start the filing process. It is pretty much self-explanatory.

@shreeram,

I have applied for both TPS and EAD for my sister. Now she has to wait for a new EAD?

Just a quick question how long can you work if your EAD doesn't arrive by 06/30/24?

How long is the extension period? Any idea because USCIS will take a longer period to make a decision?

For those whose TPS Work Permit is expiring on June 30, 2024................
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eligibility for Automatic Extension:

You are eligible for an automatic extension of your work authorization if:

- You have timely and properly applied for the renewal of your EAD before it expires.
- Your renewal falls within a category eligible for automatic extension (the USCIS website provides a list of these categories).
- The category listed on your current EAD matches the "Class Requested" on your renewal notice. For Temporary Protected - Status (TPS) beneficiaries or applicants, the categories must be A12 or C19, although they don't have to match exactly.
- Your renewal application is still pending by the time your current EAD expires.

Using the Notice:

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can present this notice along with your expired EAD (and Form I-94, if necessary) to your employer for employment eligibility verification purposes under Form I-9.

Duration of Extension:

The automatic extension can last up to 180 days from your EAD's expiration date. In your case, this means you could continue to work under this extension until approximately December 27, 2024, provided that your renewal application is still being processed and you meet all other eligibility requirements.

End of Extension:

If your renewal application is denied, the automatic extension ends immediately, and you can no longer use the notice for employment verification purposes.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hope this helps since i am in same process currently............

Hey nu_rse!I’m trying to file my online but don’t see any options to upload my documents. How did you manage to upload supporting documents like passport or previous copy of TPS. Also, the paper format and online form look little different when reregistring.
Thanks

If you have TPS, actually to work you don't need EAD, if you can satisfy your employer with other documents for I9 verification, such as federal notice, state ID, previous TPS approval will just do fine.
