Smell receptors in our body can be very powerful and can bring back vivid nostalgic memories of the past. This thread mean nothing if most of Sajhaites don't participate but could be very interesting if we hear from many. I will start with a few and see where it goes:

- that pungent, burning fuel smell of fully loaded blue 'Vikram' tempo pulling itself through the hill of Bijuli Bazzar
- the smell of roadside 'poleko makai' while walking along the streets of bagbazzar and rantna park
-smell of 'patakas' and 'malta barud' during tihar
-smell of peeling oranges and 'bhogate' while sitting around on a 'sukul' with family on a warm saturday afternoon

lets hear some more, shall we?

The smell of monsoon rain and mouldy verandahs. My dogs with their stinky wet fur and wagging tail. Smell of Henna on my hands and hair mixed with the pungent smell Dabur amala ko tel. Smell of hing and timur and lapsi ko achar.

Sometimes you needed good negotiation skills to take shower in Nepal. Due to water scarcity, it happens to be your brother or sister's shower turn and you had to come up with excuses like you have a hot date or something. Sometimes you just had to settle for washing the head only. Don't take water for granted is a lesson to be learned.

Getting back to the topic of smell. When you were in that 14-15 years old and you get to smell a good looking girl showered with Lux and Sunsilk with Dabar Kesh Oil and you would go like this...

Smell of "Bhuteko Makai" on a rainy day.

Smell of Kathmandu's streets (a mixture of garbage, dust, tempo smoke, sweat, burning tires, sekuwa corners, and so much more)

~The most prominent smell I remember is the smell of my muwa when I am next to her.. man wud do anything to be next to her now..
~The smell of early morning in Ktm. during winter
~The smell of temples in nepal with all the tika and everything else specially on occasions when there is a lot of bhid.
~The smell of poleko maasu during dashain...

the smell that hits you when you're super hungry and you walk into your favorite nasta/khaja pasal
for me it was samosa chole at tansen restaurant right outside of tansen's bhagwati mandir

oh, and i forgot lasun sizzling in a frying pan......

Smell of mutton curry in my microwave.....ready made heat up......hardly cook myself.

I have vivid memories of my childhood in nepal. How can I forget the smell of kerosene oil as people lined up to buy kerosene.

Harineen k o sukuti that my housegirl made every summer.

Sunbathing and sleeping in the terrace the whole day during winter and chitchating with my granny, who always had fascinating stories to tell.

giving a helping hand to mum and aunts as they made pole ko godbhela ko achar.

I cherish all these memories as days go by. What a life we had, we were all happy, will those days come back?

who doesn't remeber the smell of "moth balls", in nepal they used to call Fenel (phenol), damn..if i only knew then what i know now, i would have never gone near those cancer causing agents.
Every granma or grandpa and even parents used to have it in their almirah or suitcase to protect clothes from bugs. They are proved to be carcinogens. Bugs die right away but humans die some 40 50 yrs later. Oh well.

i came up with a new one to revive this thread!

i don't know if anyone else used them or not, but the smell of king mat mosquito destroyers (or whatever the hell they're called). i tried not to use them much, as i was afraid they were releasing toxic fumes, but i used them once in awhile during the monsoon and they always filled my room with a sweet fragrance.

of course, now i'm paying for it as i see the growth of another nostril and an eleventh toe, but.......

anyway, let's try to get this thread going again!

-Patan ko Honacha ko aalu.
-Smell of fresh baked doughnuts from Nanglo.
-Bakery ko momo.
-Kalaiya ko Sekuwa.
-Mustang ma thakalni ko dal,bhat and golbheda ko achchar.
-Chisapani ko machcha.

school ko dormetary ko MOJA KO SMELL..haha i miss that smell man! it use to be soo good, stinky socks, aand stinky feet...dammn hostel was fun!

the numero uno smell I'd like to smell right now is ; those sayapatri flowers and the smell of dhoop, batti and selrotis, different kinds of sweets and red abir .....etc.

How can I ever forget the smell of the dashain tika, Jamara and those freshly printed Rupiya notes. Happy Vijaya Dashami to all the Sahjaites out there.

for me, one of the best parts of Dashain used to be when all the out of towners went back to their hometown, there were fewer vehicles on roads, no dusts, no air pollution, you can smell the clean air again, which is otherwise impossible to do. I don't think that is hapenning out there though because of Maoist activities. Lets Pray to Durga Mata for bringing back those peaceful happy days.

The ones i like, in in no specific 'odor:

1. Local "tharra" ko "kada" smell

2. "Tongba" khayera faleko kodo ko mug-mug baasanal

3. Rural area ma field tira aune gai ko gobar ko faint smell

4. ani momo ko mug-mug basana.....slurp

5. Masu poleko

So, a perfect setting would be something like this:

BAuddha bhanda para tira ko kunai kuna kapcha tira gayera, Asoj ko mahina, rukh muni basera bibhinna variety ka madak padartha ra snacks......
