Hi,

I am going Nepal via London (Transit). I have travel document (I-512). Do I need to get transit visa?

Since, I have travel document, do I need to apply for visa to come USA?

Appreciate for suggestion.

Hi ChandraPrakash1:

I did initiate such kinda thread in sajha, couple of weeks ago, asking assistance for flying via London.

To my knowledge, you will be exempt if you are a green-card holder, or already had a valid US Visa (entry). If not, then, you have to apply for transit UK Visa, which you will either apply online or go personally in British Consulate (depends on where you located). The total cost for getting Transit Visa only is $78.00 from United States of America.

I was planning via London, and applied online. Unfortunately, I have not gotten any reply. So, I called the British Embassy, and they want me to visit their place and apply personally. Since, it is a time consuming and not to mention an additional charge for my trip to back home, so I decided, why not just save that bucks and look for some other better options. Fortunately, I did find the nicest offer, which is via Paris. That was a piece of cake for me. Well, if there are other better option, so why should we waste our time and energy.

Hope this information will assist you to some extend.
Have a safe trip.....

i went to nepal via london last fall...i posses a valid visa..like your travel document...in Heathrow they gave me a transit visa valid for 24 hours only..well that was enough for me to go around london....london is not a good place

don't have to worry about transit visa...if they find u eligible to return back to u.s in future....have fun journey

. Thank you bardan, quest, Nepal tiger for your valuable suggestion.

I am new user so I don't get opportunity to check that thread.

Nepal tiger, you mean I don't have to get visa for transit? You got transit visa in airport? Anyway, I don't have any plan to go out of Airport.

Thank you.

Chandrapakash mitra,

Well, last week I did some online research about this transit visa via heathrow. All nepalese need a transit visa, called Direct Airside Transit Visa (DATA) to travel via UK, unless u qualify for exempt.

Hmm I 512, is that green card??? Green cards holders with GC issued after 1998 guess April 22nd) are exempt from the DATV requirement for traveling via UK.

I was scheduled to visit Nepal this summer via Heathrow. I checked the rules online and also sent a querry. Damn, their rules are very complicated. So i rather decided to change my ticket and fly via Paris. See folks, even if u have valid visa to re-enter US and have tickets confirmed, it does not allow u to travel via UK to all nepalese. And if it happens that u have some problems, then u r denied boarding the flight and we definitly want to rule out its chance.

Saavdhan saavdhan, what is written on this page is slightly different from what the immigration authority wrote me back to my email querry. Things like, even if i have valid US visa, wish to travel via UK and then be back to US, i qualify for exepmt only if my last enterance to US was within the last 6 months (this rule is also spelled out clearly somewhere inside their rules online). The first time they send me the rule via email reply clearly stated that i need a DATV but i made second querry, and they say i don need a DATV to travel via UK. So what to believe?? I might go without the DATV, then who knows the airline authority might turn out different, and then i am in problem.

I think the best idea is just to not travel via UK (at least for me) if its just a transit. jhanjhat saaf.

Hey NepalTiger!
Regarding the transit visa you obtain at Heathrow airport to visit London for 24 hour, what was the visa fee?
Thanks
