Anyone have information on what software to use for authenticating users before they are able to use wireless network? Right now, we are using regular wireless router that anyone can connect to. Is it possible to use a software that asks for username/password before people are allowed to use the wireless network. Using encryption key is not an option because then everone has to be notified when the key is changed. Looking more for password based authentication.. any ideas?

Based on the hardware you are using check with the vendor for MAC authentication. MAC is more secure and widely used. Hope this helps.. Shiv

There are many ways you can authenticate the user. And in the wireless router you have a way instead of using the encryption key.. you can use the username and password.

I'm interested in providing a Username/password solution to people who come to my office. So that when they try to connect to my wireless network, they get greeted with a username/password screen and I can give it to them through some kind of administrative screen. Sort of like when you try to access the wireless from hotels you have to enter your credit card before you are allowed access. It is very user friendly since the browser window pops up asking for that info. I want to do something similar. Thanks for any help.

You can also create a domain for wireless users and the users can authenticate to your domain. You can customize login screens, it is cheaper than hiring a programer. This is a microsoft solution will make Gates happy for sure..
