if u have good scholarship or stipend that pays for living as well, then all u need is urself and whatever u want to bring with u like some clothes, shoes, etc... if u have partial scholarships, then it'll be hard. in any case, get married first and bring ur wife along that way u dont' have to worry about when to finish and when to marry etc... for grad students with scholarships, it is very easy here

I think its assistanship rather than scholorship. If you are a sciience major (excluding engineering), there are lots of assistanship opportunities. If you are accounting, management, computer scince, mis, and engineering; its competitive but still there are opportunities. This depends upon your GPA, GMAT (Mgmt, accounting) anf GRE (others), recommendations, and expereince. Expereince will be evaluated while applying for mgmt and accounting but its not the only criteria. In the sceince, your research will play a role. It is always insisted to contact professors and find a research topic and apply for the assistanship in the science field. ( I might be wrong in this one cause I from mgmt background but I explaining my frens expereince). In mgmt field, there are usually coordinators who evaluates initially and the board that determines your application. Most of the State universities have assistantships. If you have full assistntship your all the expenses will be covered and you will be paid which will be good enough to survive. If you have partial assistantship, your all the expenses will still be covered but you will paid less which might not be sufficient for the survival. In this case you might need to work part time for the survival. If you have any questions, just post a thread, and I will try to answer it. If I cannot then assume that HF is busy. All the best Peace OUt

also you can work upto 20 hours/week on campus to supplement your income if need be. hours beyond 20 needs approval from int'l advior, i think. working on campus while also studing can be quite a cultural experience, especially for new students.

Jyapoo, If you do not mind, can I make a correction. Full time assistantship includes 20 hrs of work load. SO, if you have full assistantship, technically you are not allowed to work more than that. If you have part-time assistntship, say 10 hrs, then you can work extra 10 hrs on campus. peace out

Gather some photos of your family, mother, father, siblings. Also get some pictures of your closest friends. Dont forget to get everyone's phone number. Try to read about adjustment issues in the USA. You university here should be able provide you with issues related to adjustment, opening a bank account, fast food, relationships with your American friends. One of the issues a Nepali friend of mine asked was "how do I know if someone likes me, or if they are just being nice for the moment"? Bring a birth certificate, marriage license, campus transcripts, citizenship report from your school. I would suggest that you do not buy new clothes in Nepal before you come. They may soon appear out of style when you get here. Also, expect to lose some weight if you are a guy, and expect to gain some weight if you are a girl. Therefore new clothes will not fit soon after your arrival. Buy clothes here, you can get them cheaply at some discount stores like Goodwill, Salvation Army. They often have new unused clothing and they are very inexpensive. $2.50 for a shirt, $4 for trousers. If this sound funny to you, then just disregard it, and come with an open mind and find out for yourself.

oh by the way, bring some jwanu, methi, khursani, besar, hing, til, rayo, jimbu, etc. if you are into culinary or care much about cooking! they are best in nepal and can be bought packaged in asan or indrachowk. no problem bringing them into us. don't bring any biodegardables, though.
