Have any DV winners got decent job in USA? I see most of DV winners landing in Gas station or restaurant jobs. This makes me feel jealous because they have no degree , no good experience and they are permanent resident of USA!!!!! But some of our friends have good education, decent job, and ample of experience and they still have to worry about their status. Why doesn't US Government pass a bill that allows only masters or PHD eligible for DV? I know it is a possible brain drain for a country like Nepal, but at least this helps possible डेक्ची driver to flock to USA. just my opinion.... i welcome your logical anger

Last post before I go. ss74k, I'm glad you agree with me. What more, of course all jobs taken away from H1B and illegal immigrants will not translate to American jobs. That's a certainty. After much thought, I have come to the conclusion(if you check out one of my earlier posts this is exactly what I had concluded..this was after I thought about it) that Amnesty should be granted for illegal immigrants, IF AND ONLY IF, they secure our borders. The Reagan amnesty was a total and utter failure. You know how it was hyped back then, they were all saying that it was gonna take care of the illegal issue. Guess what, the problem only exacerbated. I am all for amnesty if they're really gonna build a wall and hire enough border patrols to ensure that we really do something about illegal immigration. Furthermore, if we need manpower, just increase the number of green cards issued per year. It may well be that corporations won't make as much profit as they are used to, but guess what, that's a sacrifice they should be willing to make. France is pretty protective about this sort of thing. Hell they riot if anybody tries to put a dent on the system they're used to. A friend of mine was suggesting that the problem would be solved if America and Mexica had open border like Nepal and India. I laughed out loud because India is a poor country, and Nepal is another poor country. No matter how much India is hyped, it is another third world country. On the other hand, America is the world's only superpower, while Mexico is an underdeveloped country. There is a huge poverty gap between Mexico and America, but the difference between India and Nepal isn't that pronounced. Were that to happen, Mexico would probably be completely empty. All Mejicanos would immigrate to America. Ghost town...err country.

president- wht the hell r u talking abt. if some one has a phd r u kidding me they get green card or permenant residencly like that maybe u should do some research before u start a crap thread. and besides how smart someone is cannot be just judged on where they work and their level of education. just b/c some has book smart doesnt mean they are emotionally, socially, spritually smart and have street smarts, . like u i m asuming u have some type of degree and u come here and put ur shitty opinion without any research. thuggout- biggest loser in sajha history. sometimes he starts a thread filled with anger and hatred towards illegal immigrants and says "i m US citizen and took me 15 years blabla bla and here again as if we all forgot and says" i have h1 visa". whts up with that u need to decide wht the hell u r.

Looks like Thugged Out is Nepali Dinesh D'Souza, a noted conservative of Indian extract. The brother seems to be "more catholic than the pope". May be Bush will have a place in his cabinet for thee after another round of reshuffling! May be you'll replace Alberto Gonzalez.

I agree with Sayami, What Nepal needs is highly educated people who can lead the Nation to the new millennium in every aspects, someone knowledgeable to change the whole infrastructure of the country's economy. On the other hand, America has a shortage for under skill labors and they need to fill in those jobs with immigrants. Under or medium skilled labors are burden to the developing countries because of lack of employment availabilities. Nevertheless, developed country can cash in from this class in the form of cheap labor. Therefore, my friend, I favor America's current Immigration policy.

To “Presidentofnepal2035†with love: Let me start off with the definition of HYPOCRISY-“Hypocrisy is the act of pretending to have morals or virtues that one does not truly possess or practice. A classic example of a hypocritical act is to denounce another for carrying out some action while carrying out the same action oneself.†(Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypocrisy). “Have any DV winners got decent job in USA?†--I am not sure as to what that “any†in question is implying, but if literal translation is anything to go by, yes, there are quite a few DV winners with decent jobs. “I see most of DV winners landing in Gas station or restaurant jobs.†This makes me feel jealous because they have no degree, no good experience and they are permanent resident of USA!!!!!†--I see no reason for jealousy here. What has winning either lottery or DV or anything for that matter has to do with degree or experience? I think you are jealous because you didn’t win one, right? Well, if you are trying to say that jobs in gas station or restaurant need experience than I couldn’t agree more with you, experience counts! Now don’t you complain that you are not from blue-blooded family. “But some of our friends have good education, decent job, and ample of experience and they still have to worry about their status.†--Please, don’t let you frustration boil to such a level that you start taking somebody’s success as your failure. Always remember that there are lots of people better, brilliant and brighter than you but for some reasons have difficulties making their ends meet. Why doesn't US Government pass a bill that allows only masters or PHD eligible for DV? I know it is a possible brain drain for a country like Nepal, but at least this helps possible_______ driver to flock to USA. --There are tons of things that don’t make sense or defy logics when you consider the functioning of US government or for that matter any government and immigration policy is one of them. Well, when you are in US as a student, you being illegal immigrant is quite minimal as for the most part student would want to get a decent job and then go for H1 B visa or green card. In very few cases would student breach the regulation of maintaining status because once you break it you fall into the illegal category and to revive yourself from that position to legal category is almost nil at least in the US. Last but not the least there is an adage that says “Luck lends doesn’t giveâ€.

It is one thing to get jealous and use that as a motivation to take a step forward, and its other thing to get jealous and curse those people just because they did not take up the same route that you did and that they still ended up better than what you ended up with. Life is not a sequence where you have to pass through each and every intermediate steps to reach a destination; you can easily reach the destination by following alternate routes. For Christ's sake, winning a DV is not a crime. Seriously, how many of you really think that you deserve to be where you are?

Well the problem is we, Nepalese, are not used to start from zero. जसरी हुन्छ टुप्पा बाटै शुरु गर्नु पर्ने... eh... source force, saam daam danda vedh जे लाएर भएपनि। What's wrong in starting with Dekchi? At least they have one advantage, they don't have to worry about their visa status. You gotta start from somewhere. eh!! 5 years down the road, life won't be same for them. Afno po lottery ni pardaina, tyo po pirr.. eh!! Photo herera lottery parcha ki kyaa ho... kunni... aafno ta anuhaar dekhne bittikai lottery machine ni fuse huncha ki kyaa ho khoi kunni... eh.

Somphee, Kudos! Very well said. To those that insist on beating a dead horse about the lack of qualification for D.V winners: The fact that you are blatant enough to say that you "hate" them as an entire group of people numbering in the thousands for nothing other than their good fortune just shows the very dismal state of your intellect and education. To "Nails" who has been ranting and raving about "I feel like I deserve it more ni," and "what have they done to deserve it". I don't know who you are so perhaps you are a person of exceptional intellect and accomplishments but this is the real world..even Nobel Prize winners have to wait to get their "exceptional ability visa's" to allow them to apply for Permanent Residence! As foreign students in this country, the tuition rates are by no means cheap which means that either you have had to work at gas stations or restaurants to earn your way through college or you are the very privileged child of wealthy parents. If the former, how dare you now crow loud about the embarrassment to you because others are willing to do the hard work to feed themselves, their children and support entire families in Nepal with a mere $1500 or so that they earn at restaurats/gas stations. If you are fortunate enough to be the children of rich parents so that you were not compelled to work, well, then, I suggest you eat more than your fair share of humbe pie and take the time to find out just how hard these folks work and the kind of unbelievable sacrifices they have been forced to make to ensure a better life for themselves and their children As for the supposed need on the part of the U.S Govt to institute measures that allow only PHD's etc to enter, what makes you think that is not already the case? The fact that all you see are people who work in gas stations is your bias and nothing more than that. Have you ever bothered to ask them what they did back home? You would be surprised to know that there are many engineers, doctors, lawyers, professors from Nepal who are not above working at Gas Stations, Restaurants etc to work and survive. Most you you, I presume, are students in the U.S or came as students to this country...for pete's sake use the education you and your parents worked hard for..if not, it's a utter and complete waste of money.
