I am going to Nepal in December for marriage. I am on H-1B visa with visa stamped already on my passport. People with H-4 visa experience please post what is the process that I have to follow including registering the marriage( or marriage licence). I heard that marriages can be registered in Muncipality. Please also list what documents are required.

H1 stamping experience was not bad.. I think they generally do not reject H1's but how is H4? I really don't know.

Also.. one more question, my passport is valid till March 2007, but my visa is valid till Sep 2007. Do I have to transfer the visa to my new passport? Thanks in advance.

H4 visa is not a problem, especially if you're not from kathmandu since they can't go outside of kathmandu to verify you marrige. But, from my personal experience, they took all the documents and passport and took about a month before they gave a visa to my wife. After i called from here US couple of times to inquire about her visa, they ended up sending couple of people to my home area and they asked around if i got married and where am i and where my wife is. They later called her and said that they were sorry it took so long but they had to verify the marrige.
I guess they are sceptical about it these days since the lottery winners are marrying anyone to bring them to US.

Is written proof of marriage from the government or court not actually required? I think it would be very risky without written document. Thanks for sharing your experience. I found this info at http://www.nrilinks.com/Immigration/VisaTypes/h4.htm. This is an indian site.. so not sure if it is exactly same for Nepal. The following documents are required to apply for H4 visa:

# I-797 form (your H 1B approval notice)
# Letter of employment from the company you work for with salary
# A Letter addressing Consulate in favor of your spouse visa
# Copy of relevant pages of passport : Notarized (Make sure that you have the copy of the page with current valid visa.)
# Copy of the Marriage certificate : Notarized, If marriage certificate is not in English get it translated to English and get it Notarized.
# Bank statement [proof of money for supporting your spouse]
# A couple of your paychecks would be a plus.
# Original passport of spouse
# Few marriage photographs and a marriage invitation card.

All you need is Marriage certificate and a few genuine photos of marriage. Make sure your wife wears saree and potey churas to the interview. If you're applying right after marriage they might look for mehendi also.

Also these are the necessary documents

Original I-797, Your employment verification. I don't think bank balance is necessary. I had negative bank balance when I brought my wife here. Showing income and paystub is sufficient should they care for it. I doubt they will. Basically give her a copy of all the documents that you used for getting your visa.

But most important of all it's the proof of marriage like certificate, photos, wedding card, potey chura sindoor etc. These are the things that they will definitely ask for.

I had all that and my wife also went there with "rato" sari and all the things that reflects a married women. I hope they just do the actual checking random and hope you'll not be one of them. Be assured though that she will get the visa. good luck

What happens if both mother and the baby have the same passport? Appointment needs two different bar codes and two different passport number?

What would be the procedure if husband and wife go together for the H1B stamping and H4 correspondingly. One more thing which would be first thing to do Labor (@ Saram) or visa stamping?

One more thing to note. AwaTar, you mentioned that your passport is valid till March 2007, but your visa is valid till Sep 2007. This could be a problem while entering back to USA. Because USA immigration will issue new I94 with validity date 6 months less than the actual validity of your passport. So what you should do is renew your passport before entering USA.

Visa stamp is required to get the 'Foreign Employment Authorization' sticker from shram karyalaya. The other question about both husband and wife going together for visa stamping, I am not sure how that works. If anyone has experience as mentioned above, please post your experience.

I have more serious problems. There is a friend of mine who is getting married for real and is on H1B. But the records shows a fake spouse. How do you delete the old record ?Get a fake divorce???

Another fren of mine has a spouse who has terrible OUT of Status records...he's on H1B and the girl wants to be on H4B..is there a chance to get H4B for her (she has 3 DUIs among others).

hey, dont worry .thats the easiest visa .
the better idea would be u getting ur h1 stamp first n then ur wife. so that she can present the copy of ur h1 stamped passport.
U need all that u mentioned above except the bank document.
they just ask ur wife , about ur job, what do u do n stuffs and bout wer n wen u got married. make sure she carries the invitaion card n some wed pics. i never heard them sending people to ur house or keeping ur wifes document.

Just go to Nagarpalika or, VDC wherever you belong to and register your marriage and get the marriage registration card and take it to babarmahal to translate it into English. Everything will take 2 days. I did mine on same day. This is the easiest way.
