When oh when will Nepali parents learn to respect their children feelings.
Lot of girls and guys are forced to get married where they do not want of feel like.
They do not respect our feelings in marital issue. few guys are strong enough but poor girls. I sometime feel sorry for those girls who are forced to love someone else when they already have other person in their heart.

When oh when will they start listening to their children. If this first generation parents does nor or have not learned then I hope us Second generation will not follow the same path. I think they should make a law against this sort of Psychological terror.

Or may be it is just me who is carzy. but seeing in the pages of history it is always the crazy person who had the point and was right. :)

Nice said dude, but no one can ever force someone to love, not even the parents.. its just the girl or guy who has to decide.. after all its their life. and if they cannot present their love to their parents... why even dare loving. (btw its just what i think...)

i take it as a social pressure in nepal.... oh it does make me feel squashed when i think about it..and i try hard to fight it...i try and i succeed... i don't care what others think of me, when i've gained the trust of the ones who really care about me....

You should not generalize by saying "Nepali parents". I have seen many parents who have gladly accepted their children's love. My parents have accepted the girl I am dating. However, I can understand parents refusing when it comes to interracial marriage. Parents have been molded by the culture they grew up in and nothing can change that. We, as their offsprings, have to understand and respect that to some level as well.

what is respect in the first place? i think it has to be mutual for it to last. our culture has wrong definition of respect. i grew up learning "we have to respect our elders" but parents have to respect their grown up child's view too. most parents can only think of what was right in their time. but time changes....and they don't realize it...

yes, cannot really generalize....
some parents are stringent some are lenient. on the other hand, some kids are smart, some are dumb. you really cannot blame parents alone, after all why would they think against the betterment of their kids?
personally, i am happy that my parents did not allow me liberties on certain issues. i would not have been what i am today if i was allowed too much of freedom on certain things.

so, it's both ways you see. it takes a lot from parents to stand against their kids' will. and it takes even more from a kid to understand why they are doing it to them.

"Taali ek hathle bajdaina" as they say in nepali.

for kids "actually" deprived from their rights-- be a rebel!! eh!

Peace

when it comes to marry your own choice most of the parents don't agree, it is because of the society they live in...i personallly think that when the kids are mature enough, work and know how to make a decision , then parents should also trust them.
but when the kids is too young and try to find their partner or wants to get married without being mature then it is okay for parents to object them in someway...

If Western culture had never been exposed to Nepali culture, we would not even be discussing this. Granted that "love" did not come from the western culture, "love" has been overrated by the western culture. Having a boyfriend/girlfriend is more of a fad than its true meaning. Because of this fad, parents are more strict. If parents are comfortable with their children's love, they will readily accept it.

I should replace "fad" with "trend" in my last post.
