One of my friend had his F1 visa when he came for graduate study. After completing his Masters he joined PHD in different state and different university. He went to Nepal during his PHD study. Travelled with same visa he had before. As far as I remember he did not go to embassy and did not take any new F1 visa.

one of the frens I knew had the same deal. She went to Nepal but returned without having to face the Embassy. But i would still advise you to confirm.

If your VISA stamp is still valid, you don't need to go to embassy for visa again. However, you must have your valid I-20 from new university with you.
