Good to hear that the movie is good. Can't wait for it to come to DVD.
I read the book long time ago. It is by Stephen King. I think it was one of the four novellas in one. Yes, I remember "The Mist" being quite spellbinding. I just love the way King writes about this almost claustrophobic situations where someone or something is out there waiting to get you.
But I remember the other story in the book, "The Langoliers" or was it "The Mangoliers" was more thrilling. I think that was made into a TV movie.

It had a surprise ending. I am not a fan of the horror genre. The only horror movies that I have liked are The Exorcist, The Omen, Psycho and the Scream trilogy.
As for the Mist, it's not bad. And coming from a non-horror-fan like me, that's a big compliment. As for the surprise ending I had a mixed feeling. I did not like the way it ended - but I liked it because of the element of surprise. I never saw it coming.
Somebody mentioned IDENTITY. I don't think it can be categorized as a horror movie. It's a psychological thriller.

Most of the time, horror movies tend to be too campy, scare factor is dependent too much on sudden loud noise, too much blood and gore, and mostly just plain old stupid. But there are some that are worth checking out.
Exorcist is probably the perennial favorite of all Horror movie fans. I more or less liked all four installments of it. The original one is maybe the best. I even went to see the stairs at Georgetown University where (in the movie) the protagonist kills himself at the end. Actually, I liked the 2000 release of Exorcist more than the original one - that particular scene where she crawls down like a spider made me jump out of the chair. I did not like Exorcist II (the one with Richard Burton) so much. The Exorcist III was better. It had George C Scott in the leading role and he did a wonderful job. The fourth one is actually a prequel and it was surprisingly pretty good.
While we are talking about horror genre, here are the names of a few that I enjoyed, besides the one already mentioned above by Dautari (except for Scream trilogy, am not a big fan of slasher movies).
- Mothman Prophecy (Richard Gere gives superb performance)
- The Others (the twist at the end was so awesome, I heard it has been copied ditto by one of the Hindi movies)
- The Shining (yes, yet another scary story from Stephen King)
- The Ring (I actually liked the American version, the original Japanese version was so so, perhaps I was expecting too much)
- Stir of Echoes (Kevin Bacon is in it)
And there are some that are just fun and not that scary, like:
- Jeepers Creepers I & II
- The Locker (this one is Japanese)
- Evil Dead (the director of Spiderman trilogy, Sam Raimi, made this back in old days)
- Blair Witch Project (you might want to take motion sickness pill before watching this one)
These are all I can think of right now. Please add more if you know of any that is recommendable.

I did not like The Ring that much. However, The Others is another horror movie that I like. I heard the Indians made a Hindi movie based on The Others. I don't know which one.
The Shining was probably the scariest movie I ever saw. It was so creepy I was literally scared. Silence can be so scary. That's proably the only Stephen King horror movie that I liked. I like two other Stephen King movies but both are non-horror: Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile.

I also wanna watch the Mist. Looks like I might have to wait till the DVD.
One of the recent thrillers I've watched is "No country for an old man"... cat 'n mouse game at it's best, but I am sure you will most probably don't like it, I swear you won't like it. :) Can I even call it a thriller? hmmm... yeah, I will call it a thriller with doses of violence and bloodshed. But I swear, you won't like it at all. :D And I swear, it's one of those awesome movies that will make you go watch it again (and this time carefully, without missing a single word in the movie) just to make sure you didn't like the movie. Ha.. Confused? Me too. ;)
***Spoiler alert***
Cat 'n mouse game at it's best until it hits the end and you come out of the theater thinkin' what the F just happened. But if you sit down and think about it, look at the story in a totally different perspective, it just makes more sense than anything.

I have to agree with kalanki bro here...that was one of the best thrillers i have watched in the longest time...nothing grotesque or horrific about it, its just the silent wait that is absolutely chilling :).....I haven't sat down and thought about the ending yet, but that villain is by far the most chilling person i have watched on screen.....
