I went to Nepal on OPT and then came back without any problem. But you need to have the following:

1. Valid visa for multiple entries
2. Employment letter from your employer
3. Valid OPT Card

If you miss any of these you will be in trouble.

Good luck with ur travel!!

OPT card is not a valid for "Re-Entry" for US. Therefore, once you have changed the visa status from one to other, need stamp.

Legally, you are not able to enter in US without visa.

Cheers.

In normal times it should not be a problem as long as you are on OPT from the school you were granted visa for  and you visa is still valid as you are still in F1 and your visa status has not changed...but under current economic chaos when everyone are looking for an excuse to get rid of foreign workers...you may never know so don't go unless it is have to go situation...in that case I will go anyway what others say.

thanks guys for your sugesstions.

I already have a job offer here is US but I recently got my canadian PR so I must land to canada before end of June. I did not want to give up my canadian PR but I am not planning to go move there right away. but I do not have valid visa. I need to get visa stamps in Canada. my questions is, should I go to canada while I am still on F1 visa or after I graduate. I am graduating in May. My OPT starts in June.

thanks guys

I agree with krisnaram,

U need to have
1. Valid visa for multiple entries
2. Employment letter from your employer
3. Valid OPT Card

You can travel on OPT without any problem..Last month couple of my friends tarvelled on OPT and had no problem whatsoever. They had an offer letter from genuine companies not the desi consultancy.

If u have employment letter from Desi consultancy , the you may have a problem.

Doc 1,2,3 are absolutely must, missing of anyone doc may lead to a denial for ur entry..

I had a family emergency and had no other choice but to go to Nepal for few days on OPT. Like you, I was also worried, but I read several posts on murthy forums and came to know that many had indeed traveled on OPT so I was pretty convinced that it would be alright...and I did not have any problem whatsoever in Port of Entry...but like I said those items are vital in order to enter US.

One of my friend went to Nepal on OPT and he just had
" Valid I20 that he got when he got his OPT card"

He did not had any employment letter
he did not show his OPT card

On Port of Entry he had just given them I20 and they stamped on it.

Happy 2009,

Then I strongly advise u not to travel with expired visa. Its altogether a different story when u need to get ur visa stamped.

what if I go to canada before I graduate (april). what is the chance of getting visa stamped ? My I-20  will be still valid until that time.

Will I be able to enter US port with I-20 signed by international program director for re-entry without getting visa stamped.

thanks

If you have an expired visa, it is better not to travel even if you have a job offer (particularly in this economic situation).  Note that your EAD is not for reentry. I am not a lawyer though.

Happy 2009, If your I-20 is current and signed by your international advisor, you can re enter US within 30

days of Canada Visit, though you VISA expire.

I am 100% confident about this rule, because I went through the same process.

Good Luck.

One more thing go before you graduate. I do not suggest you to go to canada after your graduation.
