Hi, My friend is 30 yrs old male slightly over weight. Recently he is bleeding from nose 3-5 times in a week. He is also complaining about bleeding from rectum since a month. Blood Pressure fine, Diet is fine, no dizzyness, no headache. He don't have insurance so he is not willing to go to doc. I insisted him many time. Two days back he search in the internet and found that the problem could be serious. He is worried now. Ultimately we have to find good and less expensive heath care but for now. Can anyone shade a light what could be the problem. Can Bleeding from nose and rectum is a serious problem?? We need some honest suggestion please.. LIU

Rather than asking suggestion here just ask your friend to go to Emergency as soon as possible. Don't worry about insurance. They gonna treat your friend anyway. How can someone ignore such things like that.

Lostinusa,
These symptoms of bleeding from nose and rectum can be the menifestations of one of many many many possible underlying diseases, which can be very minor and easily curable with simple medications to serious underlying disease (like ITP, hemophilia, uremia, leukemia) and even though few other information like- is this first time or did he have it in past (if yes, how long ago?), does he have any family member with bleeding disorder, or did he have fever and flu like symptoms, does he have rash, wt loss, night sweat, does he lool pale? etc.... can be helpful in giving furthur suggestion
Anyway, again, such limited information or suggestion from others can be even more panicky for your fren as I mentioned above that it can be simple or serious too, and you will get different opinions. To be in the safe side, afterall its a matter of health/life so even though he doesn't have insurance, its better to go to Emergency. Things will be taken care of once you go to ER. Depending upon which state you are, there might be some government hospital where you dont have to worry about bill. Otherwise, tell them you don't have SSN. And if they send you bill, talk to them and later on make an agreement and they will agree if you pay very minimum (like a hundred per month over many years).
sorry, its not definite answer and may not be helpful, buy my view..

Thanx for the advise I know with min info it is hard to tell. I think your answer will persuade him to go see a doc. He is worried about a bill (money) i don't know. I hope it is not serious and pary for him. lets see........... He has some bleeding nose problem in past but not rectum bleeding. No family history of bleeding. No fever no rashes no sweating, but he have joints pain though.

If he does not have loss of appetite/wt, doesn't feel tired even with minimal activity(easy fatiguability), and that bleeding you mentioned is just "streaks of blood" but not clot, then, it may not be too worriesome and can wait for few days to see how things go. Make sure he is not constipated. (people who do have constipation and strain alot for defecation, can have nose bleed from raised pressure during straining and have hemorrhoids which bleeds. Ask him to take rest, take plenty of fluids with lemon/orange, DONOT take medications like PAIN KILLERS which increase risk of bleeding ( If he is taking for joint pain- NO Motrine/aspirin).
Again assess what is the extent of bleeding and how is he otherwise. Even though, its not wise to wait till it gets worse, Can still wait, if otherwise no symptoms. And Try above mentioned things for a day or two based upon ur judgement.
Hope it's something simple and he will get better.

when it happens next time rush him to the ER. they will examine everything. do not worry about any bills or something. do not give any social number or driver license number. just give the name only. do not take any ID card. i mean do not try to give detailed info. that will have negative impact on ur credit later when they will send ur bill. they will check everythin that is life-threatening n they will tell you what happened and where to go for further check up. n later contact the number of doctors recommended by them and ask them how much it is going to cost for check up or treatment procedure. this private clinics doctor will lower the price if you r self-payer. or at least you will have an idea what was the problem. bleeding from rectum and nose might be bleeding ulcer, colon cancer, or any other colon-rectal issue. if you live in dfw area then contact this doctor: visit his office for check up: check up fee -around $100, will tell you what is going on. he is colon rectal specialist. He is not taking any medication. He does little physical exercise everyday and palys basket ball 2-3 times in a week so he is not tired with few physical activities. Bleeding from nose is just started a week ago. No constipation, no any other symptoms. I am asking all this question because I need to know that I should drag him to doc by myself immidiately or just let him decide and see for few days. He is a nice person but sometime he is so childish. thanx nepali.chicago for you time and concern
