Road blockages due an accident or in protest of something have become so commonplace in Nepal. Adding to the increasing trend of highway blockages, a section of the east-west highway was obstructed for about three hours Tuesday for an unbelievably personal reason, reports say.
A lover boy with support of his friends obstructed traffic along the east-west highway in Sarlahi district for about three hours demanding the return of his girlfriend from her parents' place, Annapurna Post daily reported.
Sixteen-year-old Bijaya Lama, a resident of Ghurkauli VDC in Sarlahi, with his friends, obstructed the traffic protesting against the police for handing over his minor girlfriend to her parents.
Police had handed over his fifteen-year old girlfriend, who had been living together with Lama, saying the couple had not attained legal age for marriage.
Nepal's law prohibits marriage of girls less than 20 and boys less than 22 years-old.
Police opened the highway using force after the obstruction for almost three hours.
