Hello sathi haru, I have simple question regarding asylum. I am in OPT right now. I went to Nepal in June 2008. I have heard that you have to file for asylum within 1 year coming back from home country. Provided i have a story, can i file for the asylum. Any people who have filed for asylum without returning to nepal?
hi tamanglakola, sounds encouraging. can you provide me with some basic steps on how to proceed like stories and documents Which is an ideal place to file from? I am in Baltimore and people say one shouldn't file from here.
Thanks

There is a lot of instability in our home country.....so lot of students think now is a good time for applying for asylum...even i am thinkin to do the same..but how do we start..wat documents..are need to strongly support our claim....any body who can give a good answer...dajju haruu ..
just some hints and ideas on how to start and some timeline like how long will it take, what if its is rejected? can u maintain ur current status. we are not asking for any ideas on story just about the process
dont file for asylum because when u get rejected you will have to pay a huge lawyers fee for getting u off the hook from deportation....and if u get a genuine job offer or somethign and while applying for GC later in the future USCIS may access this info that you had filed for asylum and been denieddd....dont dont it
I apologize for responding late. Google I-589 and download the form. You may also want to download the direction to fill up the form. It does not cost you a single penny. Write your story explaining everything that happened in Nepal. Remember, your story is their guideline; they call it declaration. Your interview must be consistent with the story (Declaration).
@abakgarne- If you are in F-1 status you don't have to worry about getting deported. If denied, you MAY not be able to return Nepal.
i filled my aasylum few weeks ago now i got interview on february 5 ,2010 @@@nouveljande...if u apply aaylum when ur in student staus if ur rejected u could come back to student status..n after that u will never get green card at any case...but if u apply being out of status..u can take ur case to court..from where maximum people will get it...offcourse u have to spend some money....but its worthed kya..u better do it rite now...but timi padhai ma ramro garirako chau bhane yeta tira nalagehuncha..tara i suggest do it...chadai..
But things i heard upon is if u get rejected then they put you on Withhold unlike illegals cases go to court.and later when u run out of ur visa and status then u can still reapply for the same case...is tha true
