Hi all

Its time to fill tax return form in the USA. All who live in the USA should fill tax form. its a law. Yesterday we three people an Indian, a Bangladeshi and I were there. We all were in the same (F1) status in the USA, we have same amount of income and same period . the only difference is they were alone and I am with my spouse in dependent status. At the end I was curious to know how much I can get in return because this was my first time. It was not big amount and I asked to the indian who was my close friend and the amount which was about 5 times greater than mine. I did not understand what was wrong with my form and I asked to the college representative who was assisting to us. She told that it is because of difference in treaty. Nepali students are not getting return as equal as student of other countries because there is no treaty.

So many things came to my mind like what the treaty is? why Nepal government is not able to make such treaty? Why Nepali diplomat is not serious about this kind of issues? They were unaware? or Nepal can not make such treaty because it does have any influence in the world?

Does anyone have any idea or experience why this happens? can we raise our voice to make aware to the respective department or ministry

Well, our politicians are not making money on signing such treaty, their eyes are on big fish.
In my time, all students had clean ss number and never used NR. I knew since then, we Nepali has to use 1040 NR, gives less refund, so we choose to get more using 1040 EZ.  Not Suggesting To follow wrong PATH. We all are through now.

Since your tax returns is not favorable as you've wished, you want to involve our Diplomats, Governments and all the official to concentrate on THOSE NEPALESE WHO WANTS TO RESIDE ON FOREIGN LAND.

What a thought!!!

Sexy in Sari

You have a very good thought I respect your thought. Nepal government should not do any thing in the favour of those nepali who is studying in any foreign land. is that right? All other countries like India, China, Pakistan even smaller country than Nepal could but Nepal shoud not. Then could you please tell me what is the program for those nepali unemployed young generation who has returned Nepal after completing their studies in abroad and who has completed thier education in Nepal and struggling for their life.

Unfortunately, We change our Nepalese Ambassador in Washington, DC. in a same way as a restaurant updates  " SOUP OF THE DAY" in a restaurant menu. No doubt, It'll be irresponsible not to address issues you have just mentioned, but  issues like Dual citizenship to Nepalese in US can be more PRIORITY and BENEFICIARY to Nepalese. Hopefully, our officials are working on it and lets not Disturb them when they are offering SAME "SOUP OF THE DAY".

I don't believe the tax treaties are created to lessen your tax burden. They are there to avoid double taxation. We do not pay taxes to Nepali government in the income earned in the US, hence you will probably have nothing to gain by such treaties. My personal experience was this. I used to live in country X and I worked in Country Y for some period. These countries have tax treaty. Country X tax rate was 25% while that in Country Y was 40%. I paid 25% to the the Country X. Then, I was charged the difference 15% by Country Y. This may be an oversimplified scenario or my naive understanding of it. But you end up paying the taxes equal to higher of the rate among the countries to which you owe taxes, provided they all have a tax treaty. Lack of such treaty can subject you to double taxation.

Do you think those indian students or H1B in US pay their tax in India? There is huge differences in consequences about not paying taxes in India and US, and that is too for students and workers.
So I think it is not the same thing. They are benefiting a lot because of this tax compensation.

Whatsoever, I am not emphasizing Nepalese Gov. to make similar tax treaties with US. Obviously, this should not be their priority now.

i think the whole treaty business is not just for students. i am a student myself.
nepal is among the countries that make large revenue from foreign tourists. if we expect that the gov should sign a treaty with taxes that means americans that visit nepal also wouldn't have to pay taxes (i mean not just tourist but other buisness) wich means we would be loosing our revenue.
its just an opinion not a fact
