I would strongly suggest you to talk to the people in the Accounting Program at your school. They will be able to answer all these questions for you.
First of all, kudos to you for thinking about the CPA exam so early in your undergraduate program. I will try to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge. How much time ahead should I start preparing for CPA exam? Will you please suggest me the best way to be prepared?? Is there any specific course i should take?? any specific school I should go for test preparation like we did for SAT ?? CPA is a knowledge-based test which means that if your undergraduate program (school) has done a good job of teaching you all the required skills then you might not even have to take any kind of prep class, you could buy some prep books and study for it. I know a few people who did that and were able to pass all the sections successfully on their first try and I know lot of people who took prep classes (Roger, Becker, Wiley, Kaplan.....) and still weren't able to pass the tests. The CPA exams are difficult (just like everything else in life). To answer your question-- The best way for you to prepare is by getting straight As in all your accounting classes and then during your last semester you can decide if you want to take any review course or not. Most states don't let you sit for the test until you have graduated, some states let you sit for the exam during your last semester in school.
ani kun state bata CPA exam dida ramro huncha I mean from job and career perspective?? Northeast, California or somewhere else?? Don't worry about this right now. You can take the exam from wherever. It doesn't matter where your school is located. You still have 2.5 years left in school so this question is completely irrelevant at this point. Try to get your accounting degree from the best school possible and get good grades. That's going to improve your job prospects.
regarding my info. i'm about to get done with my 4th sem. major : Accounting. planning to minor in finance so still 5 more semester to go?? A lot of states have 150 credit hours requirement meaning you need to have at least 150 credit hours to be able to sit for the exam. Besides the 150 credit hour, they also specify certain number of upper-division accounting hours, business hours etc. The best way to meet this 150 credit hour requirement is by doing a Masters. However, some students choose to complete 150 hours of undergraduate credits. I can think of at least one state where it is impossible to fulfill the upper-division accounting hours requirement without doing a Masters. So, if your school has a 5 year Masters in Accounting Program, do it.
I would strongly suggest you to talk to the people in the Accounting Program at your school. They will be able to answer all these questions for you.

hey sabko sathi, Thanks a lot for your reply. I'll definitely talk with my advisor on this matter. Beside that, I just wanted to get some ideas from other people also, so I started this thread.. Unfortunately, my university doesnot have the top accounting program. It is a tier 4 university so you can imagine.. . Also, it does not have 5 years masters program. SO, regarding the 150 credits for CPA, I'll be done with 70 credit this semester and I'll have 60 credit to major in accounting and 15 more credit to minor in finance and 6 credit on honors. So, total I'll have 81 credit left but I doubt if they'll count the honors course credit towards CPA. Anyways, honors ko credit lai namanne ho bhane pani total ma mero 140 /145 credit ta hunca ani jaabo 10 /20 credit ko laagi kina masters ko laagi gayera kina time waste garnu jasto lagyo..but that's just me. What do you say?? Do you think I should go for masters rather than doing staying more time on undergrad.?
ani ahile samma ko mero grades ramrai cha. 3.82 cha GPA hopefully after this semester it'll be 3.87. ani coll. involvement is not so good. sabai ma member matrai chu...lol. dherai club haru ma involve huda padhai lai time pugdaina ki jasto lagcha... next sem. dekhi chahi accounting ani finance club ani Beta Alpha psi ko member hune plan gardai chu....lets see.
also, since my coll. is not one of the top ones so I was asking for the state with more job opportunities after CPA.... ani I forgot to ask this question on my 1st query...Do we need to have some experience to get CPA licence??

If you want to prepare for CPA using review course, I recommend CPAexcel which is cheap ($800) and very good. You could even get for less by taking student discount. You just buy the very basic package and you will be fine. Becker is just too much money when you can have same result with a little money at CPAexcel. My recommendation is based on my own experience. Good luck to you.

What do you say?? Do you think I should go for masters rather than doing staying more time on undergrad.? If that's the case don't worry about Masters. Just get 150 credit hours of undergraduate. Just make sure you have taken enough upper-division accounting and business classes. People in your accounting program will be able to tell you which classes from your school count as upper-division accounting classes.
ani ahile samma ko mero grades ramrai cha. 3.82 cha GPA hopefully after this semester it'll be 3.87-- Club involvement and stuff is good but I have realized that two things are crucial for being able to get your foot in the door. One is good gpa and the other one is networking. So just focus on your gpa. Anything above 3.5 should be good. Make sure all your professors know who you are. Try to built a relationship with them and ask them if they know anyone who might be able to help you find an internship. Being involved in Beta Alpha Psi might be a good way to network depending upon how active the chapter is in your college.
also, since my coll. is not one of the top ones so I was asking for the state with more job opportunities after CPA-- I know. That's what I was trying to tell you, if you can transfer colleges do that and transfer to the best college you can get into. If not, don't worry about the state right now. Things might change in 2.5 years. As of right now, a lot of international students take the California CPA (I don't have any hard numbers to prove this)
Do we need to have some experience to get CPA licence? Yes, different states have different requirements about this. I would say the average requirement is 1 year of accounting work directly under a CPA (some states require specific auditing hours as well).
So at first you take the exam and then you need to prove that you have completed the licensing requirements and then you get your license.
Here are some useful websites:

Hopefully, other people will also add their comments and you will be able to get a different perspective.

If you are going to be a Junior next year you should probably look for an internship. With you GPA the big fours will surely be interested (provided you can do some guff gaff :-). I would check to see if any accounting firms come to your college to recruit. If you land an internship and a job with a big four, they will provide you with much needed resources to pass the CPA. Good Luck!

Duracell's advice is great. Even if the Big 4 firms don't interview at your school, you can always contact the regional HR person directly. If you tell me which state/area you are in, I could try to find out the contact info. If you have any questions about what kind of questions the Big Four Firms ask PM me, I can help you with that. If you don't get an interview with the Big Four, you could always try the local regional firms (big regional firms pay almost as much as the Big Four). However, there is no substitute to the training and networking opportunities the Big Four provide. Most accounting firms pay for your CPA test prep course (or give you a bonus for passing your CPA tests). In case you don't know what Big Four are- Big Four are the four largest public accounting firms namely E&Y, Deloitte,PwC and KPMG. Click here to subscribe to Duracell's postings. Shrek431 Recruiting is done locally or regionally so you should go online and find out who your local recruiter is and send them an email. Recruiting for interns has already started and in my region and they have already finished first round of interviews. However, it could be different in your area. So shoot them an email with your resume and see how it goes. If you need more info you can email me too. Hope it helps! Good luck..
