hello guys. PHONE DETAILS::
Iphone 3g , 8 gb, 3.1.3 baseband 5.12.1 AT&T contract is over.
how can I unlock this . I am going to Nepal tomorrow so need to at least unlock it if not jailbreak. I spoke with at&t representative, though i suspended the service but they told me that neither Apple or at&t can unlock iphone.
I can see many software, in ebay to unlock. Can any Iphone Guru put some light on this? how can i unlock it, i just have 1 day. appreciation on advance,

as of now you can't unlock the iphone 3g with 5.12 baseband.. use spirit jailbreak spiritjb.com the unlock is probably going to be released once the new iphone os 4.0 is made available. so maybe a month or so..

yakuja as previous poster said (hard to spell the name :)) you cannot unlock iphone with OS 3.1.3 and baseband 05.12.01 at this moment. keep checking the Dev team blog (http://blog.iphone-dev.org/) as they will release probably next month as OS 4.0 iphone will be released. Meanwhile i suggest you to buy any py-as-you go (post paid) number if you can't live without your iphone.
I beleive you can downgrade 3g baseband by fuzzyband and then unlock. (i thought you said 3GS so had to edit th response)
first jailbreak iphone by spirit (download from above link) , you will have cydia in your iphone search for fuzzyband in cydia and it will tell if you can dowgrade the baseband. If you coud downgrade unlock by blackra1n or redsn0w ....ok good luck

its sad I cnt use my iphone . Will have to wait till 4g will be out. By the way any body has any idea when is the 4g coming exactly ???

don't think that 4g is coming soon,,,rumors anyway,,btw i have the same problem but you can jailbreak it though,,i did,,let me know if u still need to know

hi dwastha, how did u jailbreak it. i tried a lot with different ways but in vein. i tried black rain , redsnow and all tht wat it happens is just stuck in dfu mode, lemme know how can it be done if possible. thanks man.

HEY TRY THIS; HOLD THE HOME AND POWER BUTTONS FOR SAY... 6-8 SECONDS.. THEN DOUBLE TAP THE HOME BUTTON AND IT WILL BE FIXED ... WORKS FOR DFU MODE

@ yakuja.. go to www.spiritjb.com its similar to jailbreak.. and download the software.. either mac or pc.. just click on the button and u'll be done.. the process is similar to blackra1n but blackra1n for 3.1.3 isn't out yet.. they have the jb and unlock but are waiting for the release of software 4.0 to be out... also i think its a good idea to get ur shsh before you jailbreak so incase u accidentally updated ur os then u can use it to restore ur previous version of the os.. @ bhatke dai.. its necessaryevil with 3 replacing the e.. and also i think 3g with 5.12 baseband can't be downgraded..

but however if you are able to jailbreak...you are able to check your bootloader version by downloading fuzzyband from cydia or rock,,if you are lucky and your bootloader version is below 5.09 then you can downgrade your baseband 5.12.01 to 4.26.08

i don't know if this is true or not but this is the guy who made unlock for 3.1.2 and he claims to have for 3.1.3.
