Friends, I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 but I can't connect to the wireless. It says Wireless is disabled. I tried 'reinstalling' the broadcom.. fwcutter or something. After that it showed two wireless driver.. Broadcom 43** and broadcom STA. Sometime it works when I activate Broadcom STA.. but it goes back to the beginning when I reboot the system (it says wireless is disabled).. Do any of you have similar problem? any solution to the problem? Thanks in advace. Guchcha chor

I got mine working using following steps..

1)I found what was causing my problem. /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state had NetworkingEnabled=false and WirelessEnabled=false. I don't know what caused this.

I deleted the file, rebooted, and now I can connect to my network again -- at least the wired network which I use at the office. I'll connecting to a wireless network when I get home.

2)Editing /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state setting NetworkingEnabled=true and then issuing "sudo restart network-manager" enabled networking again.

guys i am using Ubuntu/Kubuntu for a while and have great experience so far.
Configuring wireless is a bit hassle based on your computer model and if you don't have wireless driver readily avaialbe.Try wicd, wirless rader and other network manager which are avaialbe for free.
The most exciting thing about Ubuntu is all softwares are fee and it has good GUI and command line support. They have large user community and you can find solutions to almost any problems if you simple type your problem in google. Also the latest version is almost like Mac GUI and I would say better than Mac since you get so much more software for no cost to you.I think people should try using it and save money and problems related to their software and OS.

It seems to be a bug in 10.04 that wireless will be disabled by default and I searched in the net and did following steps and was able to fix.So till date whatever I wanted I am able to do with Ubuntu softwares for free.Like watching moving using their CD/DVD player, burn CD/DVD,Use open office for My word processing, excel and powerpont needs, use Cervisia for source code check in and out like sub version and they have countless software

So I highly recommend everyone interested to give a shot and share feeling and problems here.
