After getting Greencard, how soon one can leave the sponsoring company?

Your views, ideas and sharing experiences are highly appreciated.

I did little research on this topics and found out that you can leave the next day you got it.But often lawyers advise to stay for six months to a year.I think it is courtesy only not requirement.
Do you have any agreement with your employer that you will be working for x no or days?
Did he sponsor for your GC  ?
In that case it make sense to at least stay for a while.

There is no obligation on the # years to be there after you got your GC, but make sure they won't be upset and give you a less good recommendation letter for your next job. Average would be 5 yrs maybe?

Gohtalo,

"Did he sponsor your GC?

You mean, financially? No.

No obligation except courtesy.

Poon-hill,

"Average would be 5 years may be?"

It's upto to you can leave whenever u want
there is no law to stop you.
If you got GC on your own expenses then I advise you to
get a better job with benefits and make  some earning yourself.

6 months is ideal.  Changing job is fine as long as it is same or similar and at par wage.
good luck,

Santoshji,
6 months is ideal if fine but there is no law that says we have to stay six months right?
You mean changing job with different employer right?
What does  similar job and par means? If you change job there won't be exact wage or salary right?
Can you post some pointers that says these in details.
