A tale of two Gentlemen
Any given day ask me a news from Nepal and I can recite it to you without having to look at any newspaper or news site. Political tug-of-war, accusation of bribery, chakka jaam etc etc. We are in a state of void and these detrimental (to Nation) activities will continue until we find some stability, hopefully via drafting of the constitution, this is a big hope which keeps getting out of reach every day.
Amongst all these bad news, some glimmer of hopes keep shining. From the lady who takes care of the elderlies to the social workers who defy common norms. There are few others who are doing the country a great justice by simply sticking to their job role. There are a handful of such personalities that I can think of and the two gentlemen whose name come to my mind are SP Ramesh Prasad Kharel and ex Kantipur journalist Bikas Thapa. Both of which are under constant pressure from those up top who are threatened by the change in status-quo brought up by these two gentlemen.
SP Kharel has a track record of criminal curbings. He was transferred to Kathmandu branch because of this immaculate record and he has sworn his cadets to follow the path of righteousness. His vouch to control the criminal activities in the city has penetrated many veins some of which lead to top political figures. Is it a surprise to hear that Nepal police, including the current IGP Chand, have served Mr. Kharel two warnings already to straighten-up? Don’t be alarmed when you read the news of him being sacked or simply transferred to another location because of his waywardly antics?
Bikash Thapa is serving his time in jail for an allegation coming from a lady at his job (Kantipur) who has accused him of sending inappropriate emails. Bikas Thapa has been writing articles on Kantipur for last 17 years and his recent articles on hydroelectric state of Nepal have been ground breaking. He has exposed many top dogs and expressed concerns/satisfaction blatantly after detailed research on the subject. Obviously those fractions want him out and now Kantipur management themselves have decided to take action against him. Without a due investigation on the matter, the court also has decided against his favor. Read mysansar top blog of the day for more information on this case.
It is a shame that the only ray of lights we are seeing are being blocked by the corrupt officials. I find it important to bring this topic to as many people I can find. Let’s bring it to the front line and pressure the top dogs who are pressuring against the honest officials in Nepal, whatever is left of them.
