Hello Guys,
I have been here little over 4 years now and i was wondering how bad or good American Accent do all ya people have ? I always try to speak in American Accent and i think i have improved little bit but it's not the best. So, i wanna know from all of you, how good English do ya all speak ? and how long did it take to learn speak with American Accent ?
I think 4 years was a long time to learn American Accent but i failed on it and i maynot get American Accent now ? Becuase usually what i think is, If you can't improve your English in 4 years, you 'll never improve later ? Is that true ?
If you have a audio clip of ya'll speaking English and post it here, I would be much obliged and will learn something from your style of speaking. I just want to compare my American Accent to yours so that i know how bad i am.
Or, maybe all Nepalese speak in a same way ?
Thanks.
Purana Kagaz.

Yeh bro I feel the same.Though I have been living here for 4 yrs sometimes I feel I haven't improve that much. I can speak fluently but I can feel my Nepali accent . So, When I speak with others I try to speak slowly so that they understand me wat Im sayin.Beside that mostly we speak Hindi with Boss and spainish with spainish customer and Nepali at home. So, these might be some other reasons that are blocking us from learning english accent properly.
Have u ever notice Mexicans or latinos they say they have been living this country for 30 yrs but they barely speak english coz they never feel the importance and willingness of learning english language . So, bro we should keep on mind that English is our second language .

u're not only alone guys.. same here wid me as well! my spoken English was better in Nepal than it is here. I've been staying here in US for almost 5 yrs. I wonder how some of my friends speak so fluently without having any Nepali accent, we can't figure out if they're from Nepal or US? I think the bottom line here is, it is all about our childhood, what kind of school we went to, whether we used English over there or if we've listened English songs and bla bla bla. But it's never too late to do anything, that means we'll be able to achieve our goal but it's gonna take some time and hard effort. Hope we'all will be in the position where we could speak like every other Nepalese or even like Americans. So let's put our effort to improve our American Accent! Also one thing I've noticed at work is that most people comment me on my voice, They say that I speak in low voice. Does this thing also happening to some of you out there? If people are far and they ask me something, I shout at them with all my highest voice but they still say, "What?" Please share your experience.

@Shivabuti------I think when they say 'What', that means they don't understand whatch you're saying. Its nothing to with the pitch....Your voice is fine but they don't understand it and they say , What ?
Let's improve our English.
Give us some suggestions.

Compare your English accent to people living in Nepal. You will for sure feel the difference and more or less we have acquired some English accent living here. If you compare, that should give you some idea as to how good/bad your accent is.
Most of us came here in our 20s so it is almost impossible for us to acquire 100% American way of speaking. We may improve a lot but we will never be on the level of native speakers.
Shivabuti
Everything adds up …some people went to schools that stressed on the importance of talking in English while some grew up building their language skills in various ways.
Because of our cultural values and upbringing, it is common for Nepalese to be talking in low voice as well as not making direct eye contact when talking. Our respect for others can sometimes be misunderstood by westerners and deemed lacking confidence. I know how you feel about “what” situation. Aba garo hunchha nit a…..accent pani maintain garnu paryo…chicyauna pani paryo…ani accent mildaina, shor chhai thulo matra hunchha…lol
The best way is to converse with native speakers

Regarding the accent where were you have been raised or the surrounding plays the vital role. We encountered with many immigrants and their children who, are born raised here had good education from prestigious universities, always felt they have accent.
Bottom line is we will have accent no matter how much we try to correct it because it has something to do with the vocal that has adopted in the beginning of speaking process and rest of the childhood we spend.

I think that one should not much worry about American accent as much as you should worry about knowing good english. We all know that Indians have stronger accent than ours but we see that Native American speakers can understand Indians better than they Understand Nepali, now why is that? its becasue Indians speak proper English....There is a huge difference between Bad English and Bad Accent...if you have a good english...Bad accent is no issue at all.
I am not saying improving an accent to a native speaker is not important, it could be important and fun as well but i am just saying it is not important as knowing good English. Learning Phonetics, grammer, phrases, lingos, slangs, and pitch could be helpful in improving your accent.
