Dear Friends:
My OPT expires on 20th April. I have to transfer to some college for a while.
- Do I have to take summer classes or I can start from fall semester?
- When should I start the transfer process (because if I start it now, the rest of my OPT time will be automatically cancelled)?
This 2 questions are bothering me, please give me your suggestions.
Thank you in advance.

After your OPT expires you will have 60 days to get a new I-20 and another 3 months to start the school.
So If you follow up correctly, you have 5 months from April 20th to start your school.

About your second question, it depends on you.
You can choose the SEVIS release date with your former school but to do so your school may require you to have an admission letter from another university. So start the application process for Fall session and you will be fine.

be careful cos some schools do not know what Namaskaar said above. Some school/advisors have their own views of when they think an F1 student can join school after OPT. call the school you want to join in advance and ask them about that 5 month period. an acquaintance of mine ran into difficulties big time -- but this was at a for-profit school.

Thank you "Namaskaar" for your quick reply. I talked to many Universities and they told me the same thing like you said above. 2 months grace period and 5 months to begin the classes.

I suggest you to join ITU
http://itu.edu/
They give CPT from first semester and if you find job you are required to take just one course
rather than paying $5k+/per sem fee to college
you can work from the first semester full time legally

Gothalo, You should not talk about the things that you don't know much about.
ITU is thesame category institute as Tri-valley which got raided and all the student's SEVIS records terminated.
Don't fall into those greed traps.
Any university you join at least make sure they have classroom experience so that you won't get into trouble later on.
