Patriotism is an interesting beast. It blinds you to believe that your nationality is superior to others. It used to be very powerful but now with the advent of the internet, national superiority is beginning to lose its meaning as everyone all across the globe are brought together by the internet and everyone is realizing that we are only human beings.

So trying to sell rhetorics of a superior nationality or more of the same dreams comes as trying to appease the dying breed.

When Obama was first campaigning, he gave the hope that he was going to be a global president, one who cares about the world and one will make the lives of US citizens better. But as years have passed he has shown that all he is good at is repeating his empty rhetorics and trying to sell dreams of greatness and  empty promises.

How long will the US citizens take to realize what Obama is doing is playing with their emotions and patriotism? Not only Obama, many other presidential aspirees do the same thing. Being influenced heavily by the lobbyists and corporations during their journey into the presidency, they have no options but to be be puppets of the system and processes that may in fact not be beneficial to the common citizen, to whom they keep selling dreams.

He bailed out the industry of bankers and CEO's that make millions of dollars every month instead of getting to the root cause of the problem. Because of these people who are making excessive amount of money by playing with other common citizen's money. Allocating the common person's savings into black holes to increase their own personal returns. Banking and investment systems that are immorally setup to allow betting on negative performance. There is so much to be done for the hard working american public but, they have their own agendas dictated by corporations that survive by maximizing profits and increasing the disparity between the rich and the poor even more.

Patriotism however is a powerful weapon that politicians use constantly.

"Anyone who tells you otherwise, anyone who tells you that America is in decline or that our influence has waned, doesn't know what they're talking about." 

They keep feeding the dream and the masses keep believing in them. Hundreds of thousands of americans lost their homes, lifelong savings during the real estate bubble. It is difficult to find a job if you are laid off. It is difficult to find a job if you are jobless.

Why are trillions of dollars being spent on the arms race when the citizens could have benefitted from better allocation of those funds? America is already the ultimate military and it will be difficult for any other nation to catch up. America already has weapons to decimate the earth. What more is needed now? Maybe there is a need to obliterate the entire galaxy? Why is so much money being spent on defense all over the world when the economy at home is plunging?

It is ultimate hypocrisy to pretend to do good all over the world, give donations, send troops to fight wars that are not American wars,  when Americans are suffering due to the economic downturn.

This is a never ending topic. Maybe I will continue if and when I have more time.

Interesting read. I agree with you for the most part; we all are disappointed with not just Obama but every single leaders, here or in Nepal. But if you put things into context, you have to realize that you couldn't or shouldn't have expected any more. Obama is doing a decent job with what he's got.

Say you go at the end of a Ford motor assembly line and wait for a car to come out. You could be thrilled that it came out in the sepia grey color that you were hoping for, totally rebelling. But you can not expect a Tank coming out of this assembly line, can you?

The current system of governance that America has heavily favors dual party system. Any product coming out of that system will have to work within the limitation of that system. If Obama says, let's accept that there are other emerging powers who are ready to take over soon, you think the whole US is going to rally with him? There might be few thinking minds that will kudos him for realizing this, but a majority of people will boo him. The world expected a global president, but the world doesn't vote for Obama. Americans do and he has to keep the Americans as his no 1 priority, as he should.

You talked about Banking and investment system getting the bailouts. Republican rhetoric is that he didn't do enough to pull us out. But can we look at what was the worse that could have happened? We could have gone into a major depression for years. I am not going to stand here and defend all the actions Obama government did, but whoever did whatever I have to say that we certainly didn't dug ourselves deeper into the hole.

Point I am trying to make is that the messiah that many people hoped Obama to be cannot come out from the present dual-party democratic system. Even an independent candidate would need congress approval to get anything passed (presidential whips have many limitations and you cannot be issuing it for every bill). The messiah you expect has to throw the bill of rights and prevailing constitutions and claim a dictatorship. Only then he/she will be able to do everything he/she wants to do, good or bad.

democracy has now evolved into people  having to choose between lesser of the two evil. In the end both parties are two sides of the same coin.

How come Obama's State of the Union address is often followed by a news of  paralleling and daring Navy Seal operation? Is it because even the fugitives or captors let their guards down when big O has an speaking engagement?

All in all, he is such a distraction to everyone bar none.
