Which is the best free site to file tax.

I was with TurboTax for 5 years.
They started with free version of TurboTax and still at the end of the filing, I had to pay $9.95
They maintained this for couple of more years.
Then later years, they raised the fee to $19.95, but they still bragged it as a FREE filing.
And this year, the fee was eye-popping almost $50 dollars. WTH.. I checked back and it was still FREE filing.
I went through their online docs and stuff and I came to know they're charging me whole these years for State filing.
So, it's like even if they're giving you FREE Federal filing, they'll charge you for State filing. And they got more greedier year after year.
First off, I almost made my mind to pay $50 after going through all that hassles and time but wait a minute ,second thought stopped me and I did research online and I found TaxAct.
For now, they charged me $14.95 for everything.

I would recommend you to go for TaxAct.

There is no such thing as free in the world. It's just marketing. Eventually, you'll end up paying more or less, no matter what.

Turbo - Tax advertise more than any tax software or tax filing services like H & R Block.  If it is a simple tax filing most tax software are free to Federal e-file.
In the beginning I found Turbo-Tax more consumers friendly and easy to use but it’s price is going up and up but people still paying because you data is there and makes easy to returning customer, Many customers do not like changes and keep paying more than other tax software.
As bittertruth said,  pay only 14.95 , Tax - Act  is getting better and not much different than TurboTax. The different is Tax-Act does not advertise as Turbo does.
If you are trying to save money on filing tax, you can use state tax on State Revenue Web site  which is free and file Federal Tax free using Tax Act.
 

I agree turbo tax is really getting expensive. Free my a$$.
The real reason ppl stayed for couple years with turbotax is that their data is in their system. But when i switched, i found it really doesnot take that much re entering ya data and it is very much similiar and gave me same return. So save some bucks folks n switch to tax act.

Turbotax Freedom edition! Not the free. There is difference

He is not buying a tangible product but wanted to file a tax that is either free or pay a little.  Every tax products are different (it should be due to copy rights) but it serves the same purpose and both are simple.

Why pay more?

By the way we are curious to know the differences between TaxAct and Turbo for simple tax filing? If I am convinced I may switch to your tax software.
Can you highlight?

I don't know about you guys, but I have used Turbo Tax for free for years, or maybe it was because I was in School, as you'll have to have a lower income bracket to qualify for it. But I have found it to be the most friendly in terms of usage.

State taxes are not free, but I never used turbo tax for it, instead used the free state filing online site. Always worked for me.
