BY MOHAN BUDHAEIR
DHANGADHI, June 15 - The sight of the six slain, including a toddler with a lance pierced through his stomach, was enough to curdle the blood of bystanders who were left wondering what sort of people could perpetrate such brutalities.
In what appears to be further evidence of increasing barbarity and cruelty of Maoist rebel cadres, six family members, including the wives of three Armed Police Force (APF) men, and an infant were killed after they were abducted, in a forest near Banbehada in Kailali on Monday night.
Twenty-one-year-old Laxmi of Ultakham, Mahendranagar, wife of APF policeman Keshav Shahi, had her throat slit after she was raped. She had come to Dhangadhi to meet her husband along with her infant son, on the very day she was abducted, raped and murdered. The Maoists killed her infant son too.
Radha Singh, 19, who had just married policeman Man Bahadur of Dothi Toleni-2, just a month-and-a-half ago, may never have dreamt that she would die such a fearful death. She had been living in a rented room near the barrack fearing Maoist reprisal in the village. Durgadevi Eir,19, wife of Upendra Eir
of Amargadhi Municipality-1, Dadeldhura, another murder victim was also living here in a rented room.
Both women were butchered with knives after being raped.
"I had called my wife and son here as it was not safe in the village due to Maoist violence," said a grieving Keshav. "Who knew they were destined to die like this?"
Premraj BK and Ganesh BK, relatives of APF police head constable Dharma BK, who had come here to be recruited in police service were also killed in the incident. "Where should we go now for our security?" asked the wife of a policeman, requesting anonymity. She also demanded that the government manage "special security" for them or allow them to stay in the barracks.
Recent attack on Chitwan was very much discussed with big enthusiasm in sajha. Nepali daispora in USA chanted their slogans against such barbaric acts. What happen now? when it happens to some family members of Police force? Since they are police or as lot of ppl have been saying Gyane ko police/army is that a reason they are not worth mentioning it. Aren't they Nepali ? Is this double standard? I am confused.
