I have my friend here in US with F-2 visa. He wants to work and is offered J-1 visa. How long that J-1 visa goes and what legal complications he may have to face to obtain different status than J-1 (including GC application)

information provided is not enough. is his employer is willing to get him H1b? j1 is not too bad if he does not have two year home residency requirement or 212 e is applied. try to get j1 without such requirement, he should be fine.

Thankyou number ji. His employer is not willing to provide him H1 for the time being but said later on he can go for it. He came here five months ago. So can J-1 be changed into H-1 easily? or incase if his J-1 is not extended after a year, can he be F-2 again?

yes, J1 can be changed to H1. but make sure he does nt get such requirement like i mentioned above. if he gets such thing, it makes life very complicated. he has to go through long process and get waiver letter from nepal embassy and get approval letter from USCIS. however, if his visa status is j1 without such thing, he should be fine. he can file for h1b later if his employer said that he can do it later. he needs to get waiver letter from nepal embassy before doing that.

I have a question on H4 dependent's travel. Can H4 dependents come to US anytime within the valid period? Are there any restrictions, such as dependents should arrive in US six months prior to its expiry?

i am not familiar with H4 but if visa is valid, why can not someone come here? he/she should not have any problem. my understanding is h4 is the easiest visa to get.

number ji one more thing to ask. If he is provided without the restrictions of two year home residency and 212 e, how far does that J-1 visa go?

his J1 visa can go until he has that job. if 212 e applies to his visa, and he can not get waiver, he has to leave usa for 2 years.
