Bhote Jatra is a Newari festival (now a national festival) that is 1300 yr old. But look at this picture, a disgusting bahun shows the Bhoto to the public. In the whole of Kathmandu, they did not even find a single newar to do the job. Newars, when you guys will rise to the Occassion?

Thopa, Rato Bhaley, Kalankisthan, Kalukisne, Newguy etc….. You are welcome to Burma. Or what they call Union of Myanmar. "Mingla-wa"……………. Literally means, ‘Mangal Hos’….. meaning Nameste in Burmese. They have a tourist city, like our Pokhara. – city named Mandalay. http://www.myanmar-tourism.com/mandalay.htm That’s a place for you. They also have an airlines, called, again, the lovely … Mandalay airlines. Mya… Mya … Lau…. (Meaning “hurry up†in Burmese). http://www.myanmar-tourism.com/mandalay.htm

Hulaki I've been reading your postings and wanted to reply to you. I am sure you are aware that people of different clans behave differently. They have different priorities; different growing up; different culture; etc. Newars have been in the valley for hundreds of years. In fact I am sure you are aware that the valley used to belong to the newars. The valley was ruled by Malla kings until it was taken over by PNShah. During that period, Kathmandu valley was the most affluent kingdom out of the whole Nepal that PNS united. That is why he chose to make Ktm the capital. Ktm newars used to flourish on the business model which was sustained under the guidance of the benovolent king. The newar farmers and the newar businessmen had a prosperous relationship with each other and other class of newar workers and newar government. It was the golden age. After PNShah took over the ktm valley, he and his posse saw what their own kingdom had been missing - the prosperity. Since that time Ktm valley has been plundered by the immigrants from outside. Not all immigrants were/are bad or have wrong intentions, but most of them see prosperity for the first time and they do their best to grab whatever they can in the least possible time. Their propensity to grab the most in least possible time has defined the world of politics in Nepal. Since the government is in Ktm, the netas who come from all over Nepal see the prosperity of ktm and they want a piece of the pie so they try to get it by any means possible in the least possible time. That is why we see politicians coming from outside the valley amassing huge wealth during their time in power. Coming back to the showing of the bhoto, the newar population have been following the rules set to them by thier rulers. They are a peaceful lot. They try to work hard for their living. They don't want to get too much into politics which is now mostly full of people from outside the valley - for whom all that matters is to get a piece of the pie. Most Newars have houses in Ktm and family trees that extend to all over the valley. They are content with being able to do their own business and make a living. As far as they are concerned, the government is suppose to make the right decisions for the people. That is why they don't really care much who shows the bhoto or who pulls the kumari chariot. BUT, the reality of the situation is going way out of hand, ktm valley is being plundered by these opportunist politicians who are seeing prosperity for the first time and are willing to kill others to get what they want. We newars are a peaceful lot and I am not sure how long or what it takes for us to take to the streets, but once that happens then you can only keep your fingers crossed as to your own survival.

I liked Bhintuna's last post. But that does not clarify if the person showing the Bhoto was a Bahun or a Newar. Globalization in local scale, thats what I call it. I am sure that you will agree to this word 'globalization' if you are a Newar and not in Kathmandu at this time.

Bhintuna jee, perhaps you've not seen some of the posts by hulaki and seen how racist he is, and what he himself thinks about newars. So I'll come to what you wrote. I disagree that was a golden age. There might be less chaos than the present time, but people also had all sorts of problems as you know there's a big cast system within newars, and people still stick to it. CAST SYSTEM SUCKS.

Gahugoro, newars had separation of duties according to cast back then but the point is they were happy - ruled by benovolent king and the kingdom was prospering and flourishing. It's only after the advent of immigrants from outside whose sole intention was to plunder and amass as much as possibly through any means that the quality of life in kathmandu began to go down. But due to the deep roots Newars have in the valley, they can still make things happen if and when they get tired of people like hulaki who have no roots in the capital and trying to achieve 'bhai futey gawar lutey' by spreading propaganda and trying any means to make a better life for themselves at any cost. We are all watching quietly doing our own things.

Well, to tell you, I've seen problems in newars, which has nothing to do with immigrants from other towns; first of all that needs to be sorted out, and at least realized by themselves. It'd be the waste to blame on immigrants coz' after coming here, probably you also realize noone wants to leave thier hometown if they have the better choice.

what kind of racist war is going on here? whether you are a bahun or a newar, there is no point in basking in the glory of the past. What matters is today and the ability to move ahead with the changing times. Nothing remains the same forever. Everything evolves and grows....so does our culture.

There are some racists in sajha trying to make them popular with their ideology (?). Why dont you know how to respect to other religion, caste and people different from you. And one thing regarding to this issue in the thread The bhoto is shown by chief of Guthi sansthan Lalitpur not by any disgusting Bahun. If you become the chief of guthi sanshan you can show that. Dont worry about that.

Guys and gals dont' take this personally, I was just answering hulaki's question on why Newars not doing anything about it. To answer that I had to go back to the past to show why they are like that. I understand noone wants to leave the place when it's better than their own place. Just look at us, most of us are living outside of Nepal and it's because we have a better life here. Not many people point their fingers at us because we are following the law here. But lot of immigrants to ktm have total disregard for law and order and they try to amass wealth by any means ethical or unethical. I only wish they used ethical means rather than unethical means.

There are racist people and then there are instigators. Instigators like hulaki who instigate the others to fight so that he can make some opportunistic gains. Hulaki just say what you want and we'll just give it to you ok? No need for all this drama dilemma.
