Dear friends,
I am taking Programming course in C++. My textbook is" C++ how to program" by Dietel and Dietel. This book is too long and confusing. Can anyone suggest a good book to learn basics of the language as well as concepts on Object Oriented Programming ie equivalent to Programming I and II. Thanks in advance.

of course the book you recommended is ONE OF THE BEST. but my personal opinion ITS NOT FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE JUST STARTING TO LEARN.

you are recommending Stroustrup's book for someone who found "C++ how to program" by Dietel and Dietel CONFUSING

Robert Lafore's....one of the easiest books IMO. .....one thing i liked about it is it starts with an example pattern and repeats the same for different C++ features. that way you will get to learn how do u efficiently program in C++ ...

just my humble opinion.

I think Deitels' books are much straight forward than any other book on programming. We had to use "Problem Solving with C++" by Walter Savitch which gets bit more confusing once you hit the data structures -- but data structures are meant to be confusing, or at least thats what I think. You should give Savitch's book a try. May be you will find it less confusing than Deitel.
