I graudated in august 2007 with masters degree in civil engineering with 3.93 gpa. I have even FE(EIT) too. But still i haven't got any job offer. Is it really very hard to pursue the career in civil engineer here in usa?

To all who are having hard time getting a job or even not getting called for an interview, what I can say is that your resume has not even been brought to the attention to the right person of the company you applied for. Most of the companies receive resumes via email to HR. HR's email inbox will be so overwhelmed by applications that they practically won't have enough time and resources to go through each application.
The best way to find a job in todays competitive market is to look for companies which are of your interest/field of study. If you're applying for engineering position, try to find the engineering manager's email address and email your resume along with a nice cover letter directly. If you can't find the manager's email, you'll find company's fax number. Fax your resume and cover letter to that company addressing to the engineering manager. Whoever receive the fax is obligated to give it to the manager, since it is directly addressed to him/her. Believe me it always works.I see this regularly at my work. This way even if a company does not have any job posting will see your resume and may contact you for a possible future opening.
As someone said in the earlier post, having an excellent GPA, work experience and all that is not enough to get a job in US. You have to be smart while applying for a job. Try the above mentioned technique and I bet you'll get called for an interview from at least 10% of the companies you applied for.

Anilbro, don't make a mistake working too much in gas station. Give as much time as you can for job search. Just a reminder, give emphasis in certain field(only civil or structure or environment). Don't declare yourself an expert ...usually this kind of mistake makes you vulnerable since u r a fresh graduate. But your resume and coverletter should reflect your talent and willingness to learn and capability of working in group. In interviews be very confident even if you feel u don't know the exact answer. And don't worry, job market is never gonna go down for civil engineers. Have faith, keep tryin.. mark my words...when the time comes u will get several offers...GOOD LUCK

GP dai, how are you? few words on the topic.. I got frustrated so quickly on job search, I started applying for Ph.D. I got the ph.D. but now I think I should have pursued jobs more and took care of student loans. My word of advice to fresh graduates keep on trying. Most of the trying does not cost a cent. Good luck. BKB

I am not sure whether the society of Nepali engineers or any society for that matter "helps" in getting a job. However I am sure anyone can use the society as one of the "networking" for job search. Just my 2 cents. Good luck. bkb

Hi Anilbro, not sure whether this would work but I can only think of my brother-in-law working and living in US. Perhaps he may be able to help you as he's also an engineer by profession and has a Phd qualification. You may contact him at his email anusuya9@hotmail.com. His name is Anil Tuladhar and mine is Pavani Tuladhar, from Malaysia. Good luck Anilbro.

Hey Anilbro, I graduated in Texas too and figured Texas is a bit conservative in hiring OPT students. I tried NYC and luckily it worked for me. The civil market in NYC is huge. I think it would be worthwhile if you could try in NYC for a week or two. Good Luck! with your jobhunt.

On this for PPL who are applying for job .....i think Everyone should always... send a fax......rather than email...coz i work for a company... and last month only.. the general manager gave me the responsibility to call few ppl for interview... when i checked my company's email...there was so many email for the job... i was like .... hell no..i cannot look at all these resumes... so i just picked few.... and the rest i looked at the faxes.... sent by ppl..coz ..faxes are more easier to look at... if its a email... u have to downlaod the resume file.. n then print....n ya i know..lot of ppl who do the same.... alright!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The main problems
1. most of the online job postings (almost 80%) are from recruiters or recruiting agencies. They call and talk almost half an hour but the next call or interview with the client company is almost zero.
2. They are going to screen from lots of applications and we are far behind even we have knowledge and experience.
3. Many companies dont want to go through H1B sponsership and their first question is 'status'
4. Job market is slow in this season due to holidays and company budget closings.
5. Many Chinese and Indian fresh graduates are ahead of Nepalese in finding the job.
6. Most companies are looking for candidates within their vicinity.
Ok guys,
there are a lot of position available and one good company is sufficient to work.
