Tackling the problems with our current education system:
My points are pretty plain and simple and aren’t limited to the following. (More like scratching the surface)
Before we begin any kind of discussion, we definitely need to look at the current situation; understanding the current trend and system can immensely help us to produce efficient and effective education development plans for the future. It helps us all see where does the biggest culprit reside that is disrupting the education progress we all want to see (ppl in Nepal as well as abroad), separate what are good things happening and what are the detrimental items going on?
Standards have to be made and maintained. We should try our best to make sure there is little difference between education systems in expensive schools vs government schools. We need more teachers that are willing to go to country side and teach, incentives (financially, benefits) should be given to those teachers going to humla, jumla, etc. I understand that its easy to say such things while I am enjoying the benefits of American dream and easily asking other than me to go out to places where its hard to survive on a daily basis.
Cost is the second thing; we need to push for free education system up until SLC at least. Not trying to push for closure of private school but government needs to regulate how much private schools should charge people for education. Currently it seems to be a business to open schools with few exceptions.
More emphasis on use of newer technology and newer methods should be on the agenda of every school possible. We don't want our graduates to think 10 years behind people of developed countries. More exchange student program below 12th grade must be encouraged by the government. Developed countries can easily support few hundreds students, we just need get their attention through an understandable medium and show them that Nepal is trying to flap their wings and improve their education quality
Parents in Nepal (not just in ktm but all over Nepal) need to become more proactive and teach their children that the best way to improve their living standards and progress in society is through education. Without education they will always be where they are, moreover they might even suffer heavily than before if education doesn’t become their main/primary goal. Parent of those children involved in politics of throwing stones around need to become stricter and start taking responsibility of their children's future. They really need to understand; the only way to get out of poverty and suffering is through EDUCATION.
There is a lot more than these items that needs detailed attention. This should just be the beginning of the thought process. No intentions were made to down grade any one with this post. No negative thoughts should be allowed in talking about our education system. We all need to hold hands together in this issue, although we all have very different opinions on approaching this problem and many of them could be conflicting, BUT we should not spend time arguing with each other and instead find a common ground to move ahead towards a common goal. Each of need to sacrifice what we can in our own respective way to contribute to the propose solution of this problem.
