Hi everybody, I was working in my extended OPT and the company was supposed to file for my H1B this April but I recently got laid off, so what options do you think I have? Do you think it is too late to look for other companies that can pick up and file for H1B (are dhoti consultancies only the option now???) or do you think I should make the best of the 9 months I have in my OPT (look for a temporary project or something and work for 9 months...) any valuable suggestion is greatly appriciated.

option 1-Try to find real job, use resources/links from last job. option-2 If you are in STEM try to extend OPT to 29 months. option-3 DHOTI consultancy is not the bad option- you will still be in OPT till next OCT 09. all the best!

if you are in your extended OPT, the company that laid you off should already have notified your college that you are laid off. And you have, I think only a certain time to be without work while in OPT too...it is 90 days for regular OPT, but I don't remember how many more days you get in extended OPT. If you don't have a job, filing for H1 is not a good idea since the government is cracking down on such practices. Some people were arrested a few weeks ago...so expect those guys to give out all the illegal things that goes in a dhoti consulting company to the investigators. Thus it isn't safe to file H1 without a job with false papers. You could be thrown in jail for visa fraud, mail fraud etc....the decision is upto you...

Make sure you explore all options: including TalentNepal
1. Apply to green energy companies, even if they are small now - Obam approved $19B aid to green energy company and he wants them to start producing fast. 2. Explore Canada and Australia - These are commodity countries and ought to do well during recession.
3. Go back to school - Get some free advice from Chakrapath International University Good Luck
