I don't think an international student can invest.Even the online brokers ask for your status before you can trade stocks or any other equities. You are here to learn not to earn while in F-1. Wait till you get your degree and land on a decent job. Its a long journey, no need to hurry.

Stop spreading rubbish information if you don't know jack about what you are talking about. I joined TD ameritrade as an F-1 student. They asked me to fill out a W-9 form and write a letter stating that I pay tax to the U.S. government. All I really needed was the Social Security. They opened my account the next day. If you have a SS card and you pay your taxes, you can invest or trade.
