नेपाल में भारत के पूर्व राजदूत राकेश सूद का मानना है कि नेपाली प्रधानमंत्री केपी शर्मा ओली की भारत यात्रा के बाद दोनों देशों के संबंध फिर से पहले की तरह हो रहे हैं.
राकेश सूद ने बीबीसी से बातचीत में कहा कि पड़ोसी आपके भूगोल पर निर्भर करते हैं. आप अपने मित्र चुन सकते हैं, पड़ोसी को नहीं.
उन्होंने कहा कि नेपाल के साथ भारत की 1800 किलोमीटर की खुली सीमा है. नेपाल और भारत के बीच सदियों से ऐतिहासिक, धार्मिक और सांस्कृतिक संबंध रहे हैं.
राकेश सूद के मुताबिक़ 'नेपाल में नया संविधान बनने के बाद जो आंदोलन हुआ, उसमें कई लोगों की जान गई. फिर नेपाल ने अपने संविधान में संशोधन किया. अगर ऐसा पहले कर लिया जाता, तो मधेसियों का आंदोलन वहां तक नहीं पहुंचता.'
उन्होंने कहा कि नेपाल के प्रधानमंत्री का यह कहना कि वो ग़लफ़हमियां दूर करने आए हैं और फिर जिस तरह से प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी और केपी शर्मा ओली के बीच खुलकर बात हुई, दोनों देशों के बीच बिजली और बाक़ी चीज़ों पर 25 करोड़ डॉलर के एमओयू का पैसा किस तरह से ख़र्च होगा इन सब मुद्दों पर चर्चा की गई, उससे इससे लगता है कि दोनों देशों के पुराने संबंध फिर से स्थिर हो गए हैं.
राकेश सूद ने कहा कि भारत के लिए भी नेपाल काफ़ी महत्वपूर्ण देश है, इसलिए प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने अगस्त 2014 की नेपाल यात्रा में 100 करोड़ डॉलर के आर्थिक सहयोग का ऐलान किया था और फिर नेपाल में भूकंप के बाद भी भारत ने नेपाल को 100 डॉलर के सहयोग की घोषणा की थी.
