@eutab4: I think everybody knows what went wrong.
One miserable thing in Nepal currently is the load shedding which people complain a lot about.
Nepal is a country where there are many sunny days, I guess in a year more than 300 days are sunny. This is even more true in Terai.
If you invest around Rs 1,50,000 in solar power, probably you won't have to complain about load shedding.
www.ghampower.com
I am not advertising ghampower or in no way affiliated to ghampower. But people who can afford (for people in USA it's just a month's income), it's better to install solar power.

Jhapaliketo: 100% agree with the idea that enough supply of electricity is a must nowadays. Yet, this is only tiny aspect of a bigger systematic problem. Meaning, even if were able to somehow flood the country with abundance of electricity, things are not going to change that much.
It goes more into our culture; still primitive mindset, no desire for excellence as a whole, self-reliance not a major agenda, sense of national identity etc are of long term socio-psychological problems. Other more obvious ones are perhaps the corruption, no rule of law, sense of security (to invest) are more direct and can be felt on a daily basis and are perhaps are easier to change than the problems above.
At least, there is more to it...than the physical facility. As one wise man posed a question: "What is developement? Is it roads and bridges or the mindset?"

@eutaby,
if we are not poor today, how can we be rich in the future?. And then how can we say "We are rich now!". Future mah rich hunu ko lagi, ahile gareeb hunu zaroori cha. (This message has been approved by Prachanda).
On a serious note, the answer is corruption and lack of civic consciousness. A society should be made on the golden rule "Do unto others as you want others to do unto you." Once you live according to this rule, Society will prosper.
One does not have to be a Christian to live by this rule.
