Many organizations in the US can provide some support and it does not hurt to ask. A sample letter is posted below so you can send to you HR requesting some help.
Special Thanks to sajha member KaliKoPoi for providing this template.
The intention of this plea is to provide a draft, so that people can send mass emails to their colleagues, professional organizations, university.
Plea for Help for Nepal Earthquake Victims
You might be already aware of the devastating earthquake that hit Nepal in the morning of April 25. Until now 6000 people have been confirmed dead, and the casualty is expected to go up. Thousands of injured are in desperate need of medical attention. Countless have lost their home and are literally on street in need of food, warm clothes and medicines. Organizations like Red Cross, Unicef, Help Nepal are on the ground with supplies and volunteers but it is no match to the devastation the earthquake has left behind. We may not share the victim’s anguish but we can help to alleviate it. 100% of the contributions will go towards helping victims.
Please make a tax-deductible contribution to these organizations who have opened up direct link to their Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund. Please consider donating to these organizations. These organizations are the most capable of making difference and your contribution WILL SAVE LIFE IMMEDIATELY.

EMAIL TO YOUR HR/ supervisor
Dear …………..,
You might be already aware that my country Nepal has been hit by a series of earthquakes past two days. My family is safe but others were not so lucky. The death toll is already near 6000 and is expected to go up as dust settles after this devastation. Thousands have been injured, countless have lost home. The survivors are in need of basic humanitarian help like food, water, warm clothes, tent. There are a number of organizations helping but they need fund to support their mission.
I am making this personal request to you if there is anything our company can do to help those in needs. Every penny counts. It could be donations on the behalf of company, matching employee contribution or just spreading words. I understand there might be limitation because of company policies but I am confident that you would do everything in your power to help my fellow countrymen.
I would also like to send an email to all the employees to spread the word about this anguish my fellow compatriots are facing.I have attached a draft of the help plea with this email.
Thank You
With hope, …………………………..

Hello San BrotherThis is the time we should unite as one. I have seen there are millions of dollars pouring into Nepal right now. Just Japan has donated 800 million dollars. Everybody here can write to HR and employer too. But the main problem I am seeing here is that the people are not receiving the help. If somebody could come up with some solution so that people get the help. I do not trust our government and I am very skeptical how this fund will be handle. I still remember when it came out in news, that there was no account for more than 80 percentage of donation that was given to Haiti in 2010. I am trying to see if everybody could sign a petition or something to make a voice around the world to make sure that there is account for every dollar being spent. Just to make sure that the right people get help. Please see the video below where you feel the pain of the common person in remote area where they do not even have food to eat and they have not received any help till now. see the video at 22 sec. https://www.facebook.com/dc.nepal/videos/992297264127230/?fref=nf

Do we have Nepalese organization list who are directly working with the earthquake victims? I need to send the organization list to my HR. I first prefer to send donation to Nepalese organizations and then to International organizations. International organizations has high operation cost. so all of its donation may not go to the victims. I want to send both national and international organization list to my HR. Thanks

still_snake, Update yourself with credible news source not just some dumbass's facebook wall . 800 million is almost 20% of Nepal's annual budget. http://blogs.wsj.com/japanrealtime/2015/04/28/nepal-earthquake-japan-sends-additional-team-8-4-million-grant-aid/ Everybody expects the same. The best you can do is raise fund using gofundme and send fund directly to the people on the field. Unfortunately it comes with trust issue with donors. quicksiler, Problem with non US organization is that people simply don't trust them. You can add facebook to the list. They are matching upto 2 million USD. https://www.facebook.com/nepalearthquakesupport

All I am saying we should be careful how the money will be handle. We know time after time how trustful our government and politician are. I have asked everybody that I know to help our country but at the same note we need to be careful of the people that are dealing the money. It is not just our country, but it has happened with all different countries, and I am trying to make a point that we should avoid everything so we do not join the same boat. See one of the example below, http://www.npr.org/blogs/goatsandsoda/2015/01/12/376138864/5-years-after-haiti-s-earthquake-why-aren-t-things-better

This is cool. I work for an employer with some 4000 employees and as my discussion with management currently continues, I was thinking of providing a draft to them. So This is helpful.

This template worked magic. I sent this to my HR Director and got a response saying a fundraising will be organized among 2000 employees working at the site. The company will also match the amount raised from fundraiser and 20K for reconstruction for the organization which is TBD. Thanks guys for sharing this template and would like to encourage other guys to do the same. It never hurts trying and specially when our country in such a dire situation.
