No matter what your situation is F1/H1/H4.... or whatever non immigrant status..... TPS does not have any disadvantages at all. If you decided not to apply for it....and made this f***ed up decision anyway..... please do not come back crying after 6 months for not applying for it......... Don't listen to any mofos.......Apply ASAP....... Trust me most of the Nepalese are jealous and do not want you to have work permit... they do not want to be u have a status....they do not want you to have a good job....do not want you to have a good car......they like you to be down at the bottom....They want you guys to stay in restaurant and gas-stations...... so folks please apply and take the full advantage of it......don't listen to jealous mofos. APPLY APPLY APPLY.

I'm not sure if TPS has no disadvantages at all. But, I agree with GwaachKeta to some point. Most of the Nepalese (DV losers and others who are not fighting for their immigration statuses) I have seen still want you to go back to gas stations and/or wait tables at an Indian restaurant making minimum wages. So, if you guys are also like me, Status Pidit, please consult a lawyer and see what the benefits of TPS are. If the benefits satisfy your situation, please proceed. You gotta stand up for yourself because Nepalese will, more often than not, try to play leg-pulling with you.

Yup, I definitely agree this with GwaachKeta. Apply it for TPS, Apply for EAD if you need one as well. However, H-1B and OPT card holders might get rejected for EAD depending upon their expiration of their EAD cards.

But remember, F-1, H-4 & F-2, do not use that EAD card if it violates your current status. Else, there is a BIG doubt you can come back to your original status once TPS ends unless you figure out the legal way to stay in US.

Why TPS for F-1, H-1, F-2, H-4?
Coz we are thinking for a worst scenario and want to tackle that as well.

F-1 failed many subjects or didn't took enough credit hours and his SEVIS is terminated. TPS protects him. Once F-1 is out of status, F-2 definitely is since F-2 is F-1 dependent. So, by any case, if you fail to maintain your F-1 status, this TPS will protect you and won't be deported.

H-1b loses his job, and within 10 days, if he didn't join another job, he is out of status. In that case, he is protected from TPS. So, for these worst scenarios, TPS is really really useful. There might be other cases as well. :)

This thread looks more positive energy. I want to know what are the disadvantage of TPS for J1 visa holder?

Without TPS interference (China, India) simply change J1 to H1 and GC (may be they need 2 year home residency waiver). However, if one induce TPS interference in the current J1 visa, what will happen to this trend j1- h1b and GC?

it is in-fact listed in some USCIS websites or valid places. My understanding was that there is no time frame mentioned, but we should do the transfer as soon as possible and the earlier the better.

P.S. - Not trying to pull leg or point fingers at anyone. Just wanted to learn if I have missed anything recently.

Looks like instead of "and within 10 days, if he didn't join another job, " there should have been, "if he didn't join another employer soon enough".

However the bottom-line was : If you got laid off and didn't join the other employer soon. TPS will protect it.

I have been thinking 10 days grace period for the H1b holders until now. I got confused on that "H1B 10 days grace period for the entry and exit".
