I too don't know much about stock markets, however, I believe you don't have to be an expert to invest money in the market unless you buy and sell stocks regularly. In my opinion, you can invest in some index funds, such as Vanguard Wellington Fund which is a mix of 65% Stock and 35% bonds. Even during the recession of 2008, it didn't lose much value. If your credit score is good (above 700), do consider investing in real state. Find a decent single family house or rental properties in average to good neighborhood and invest in it.

Which state are you on ? If you are in NYC buy house and give on rent. You will pay mortgage by rent.
If you are in Tx , Ok, Kansas etc buy gas station. Bank will finance rest of it.
