Transportation called T is pretty good, runs until 12. touches Somerville, Cambridge, Malden and other greater boston area.
Weather : Miserable 6 months of the year because its northeast. The other 6 is great.
Job: IT jobs, Restaurants, Stores and misc jobs.
Crime: Depends on the area, usually somerville cambridge are pretty safe.
Affordability: 12-1800 2 bed room apt. closer to T. Its expansive because of all the colleges. Avoid Allston, Brighton , its all student housing. Watertown can be affordable if you have car.
Pretty fun place, lots of Nepalese.

My experience:
I lived in Boston for about 2 years (2009-2010). Back then, I was full time student.
Sujan Rijal summarized well.
I liked my stay besides the cold winter.
Avoid Dorchester/Mattapan Area.

Revisiting this thread again, Any thoughts for Lowell , MA ? Since it is closer to NH (don't mind driving here) and also commutable to Boston via public transportation (wanted to avoid traffic and driving as much toward City ). Keeping in mind for affordability, commute to work to NH and also wanted to have Boston Job markets (for any surprises) and grocery, food fun . Please advise if anyone lived in Lowell Area ???

Lowell is not even considered a greater boston area. Open the google map. i95 pretty much circles the greater boston area. It depends on who u r n wat u r looking for, like whether u r a young guy, raising a family or already settled. If raising a family, all areas on west side of boston, from newton to all the way up stoneham are good (school, area, locality etc). if u want cheap go to malden, everett. Lot of nepalis r buying houses there. But it feels like u r living in Mexico or Queens in NY. If u r young, somerville , cambridge are good. Near to downtown, public transportation, college kids, young professionals, bars.. Etc. medford and arlington are good area too, Suitable for all. Avoid chelsea, revere and everything on the south, east of newton. If u r millionire, go to lexington.

Another factor you might want to consider is that if you live in NH, you won't have to pay income tax on what you earn in NH. But if you live in MA, you will have to pay MA income tax on what you earn in NH. So, why not live near the MA-NH border in NH?

On a side note, if you are a Democrat, please consider living in NH to make it bluer. If you are a Republican, move to MA please :)

Thank you much magorkhe1 and mily, i Agreed magorkhe1, i am thinking to live for about 6 months around that area and decide.

Mily - Agreed to your comment no income tax, and it will be perfect the problem will be finding the mid place that is commutable for both place. I will be working in Manchester and my wife is planning to leave the Job here and she will be hunting for a new one, so meaning most likely will need to focus on bigger Job market (Boston with greater opportunity not sure how NH Job market is ?) so do you have any suggestion on the place that is commutable to Boston living in NH (1 Hour max from home to work) ? Lol @ if you are a Democrat, please consider living in NH to make it bluer. If you are a Republican, move to MA - no comments on that one just yet but this is interesting year for sure and we are watching closely but no matter who wins i will still have to pay tax !!!!!

Too expensive housing around Boston .. $1500-2000 for an apartment .. I wouldn't pay that much.. you'll get ugly, old houses for about $450k .. yikes ... place is fun though ..

In NH Home care business is booming and it is tax free money even federal. Being tax free state , NH should have higher real estate and property tax than MA.
If you resided NH and work in MA , you have to file MA Nonresident tax because any income earned in MA is taxable.

When people who grew up in NH come to Boston, its like people who grew up outside the valley come to Karmandu. It can be both good and bad thing. Dont know if u want to raise ur kids in NH. Feel the Berne

Thank you much for your inputs everyone. Looks like so far my best bet is Salem, NH which seems commutable for Boston within an hour (by car and train) drive to Andover, MA and catch a train from there ( about 1 hour) ? thank you Mily/Mgorkhe1 for that tax input that really made me thinking also wake me up by Racheeta ( Cost Analysis) . I believe there are some Nepali around Salem, do you guys know or have any thoughts on Salem NH please advise ?
