Not so good public transportation. Lots of apartments. Lots of indians working in wells and other companies.

Agreed with Maxpayne. Not good public transportation but depending on where your friend's work is might find an apartment close by.

Thanks Maxpayne and Himalaya178,

How common is it to walk like 30-40 minutes one way from to RTP?

I have seen couple of people walking, but really not a place you walk. It gets very hot during the summers. Lots of people get ride share within the companies. Or use Uber. Depending on the location, you might just be lucky and get a apartment very close by. What company are you joining?

Ghiraula,
For the cost of Uber, you can download the app. Have the starting point and where to point which will be your workplace. It will give you the amount. Pricing may vary depending on the time. On busy places they have Uber pool which sometimes is way cheaper than local transportation. But in case of your place it will be UberX i believe. It will also provide you estimated time. The app itself is pretty much explanatory
