I think that it is time for Nepal to stop only asking for help/donations from other countries. I think that Nepal should also start to give something to the world. If you want to be respected, then you also need to give something. Nobody respects a beggar!

Nepal does send young laborers and Gurkha soldiers, but it is for jobs. If we take these out of the equation, what does Nepal provide to the world? Nepal doesn't invent anything. There is one thing that Nepal can provide is the majestic views of the Himalayas. But, the Himalayas is not accessible to everyone. Only motivated trekkers go to the Himalayas due to lack of cable cars.

Also, during my trek to Annapurna Base Camp, I found out that only people from that region can open a hotel there. As a result, there are less hotels and the service wasn't very nice. I think that if we open these Himalayan areas for business to all Nepali people, a lot of young Nepali people would not have to go to the middle East for work. The Middle East made money by selling Oil. Similarly, Nepal can make money by selling the Himalayas.

I think that it is high time for Nepal to make these Himalayas accessible for regular tourists and make money. Only then Nepal can be a self sustaining country. Nepal is in no position to compete technically for ateast next 20 years. The Himalayas is one commodity that Nepal has for now.

Good thoughts. Those people going to abroad to work brings way more money than what u can make of Himalayas tourism and let along provides support for themselves. Almost 3 millions are abroad at present. Tourism money would be nothing close to what working outside would bring. Yes tourism can be improved greatly to get more tourists but definitely not going self sufficient Nepal..no way!! Oil is highly demanded and necessity for entire world. You cant compare oil with Himalayas.

Switzerland makes about 15 billion from tourism. With growing middle class in China, India and the whole Asia, the tourism industry has a lot of potential in Nepal. With peace and proper infrastructure, roads, airports, cable cars, hotels, ski resorts, Nepal can easily make billions of dollars from Tourism. The Himlayas is the longest and tallest mountain range in the world. If there is peace in the South Asia region, we will see a booming tourist market in the next few years.

I assume most of the 3 millions Nepalese working do menial labor jobs. Although they make a lot of money, they are probably not making 15-16 billion dollars.

Assuming they make 10 thousands (though they make more)dollar a year that is 30 billion. Making Nepal like Switzerland first u need a lot of time and a lot money. With everything in place offcourse Nepal can like any advance countries. Thinking is easy making it happen is what matters. Think about the time line and cost its will take to build roads to those Himalayas areas, next 100 of shops and restaurants and houses to accommodate people and tourists, health facilities doctors, Internet facilities, water supply, cables cars and airports. That makes is trillion dollar projects and a life time work but yes it can happen.

They will not save 100%. They will spend about 70% in lodging, food, insurance and entertainment. 30% is a generous savings. 30% of 30 billion is 9 billion. I think if there is peace in the region, it will happen sooner than later. Investment is not an issue. Stability is an issue for businesses to invest that kind of money in the region. There is trillions of money to be made!

For example, we know how much american companies, such as Apple, are making in China.

Well you find a way to bring trillions of money to invest from foreign company competing with India and China who pretty makes everything their country and has huge factory to support the mass production of almost anything and talents and money to build any new factories in days then maybe in your life time period you will see Nepal as sustained country.

It’s going to take more then just Everest. ALL infrastructure needs to be developed (roads hospitals, city planing, airports etc etc). We have a stable government(nobody is perfect but we should allow them to showcase what they can do. I know people like to hate on the government but that happens in almost every country, our people speak more then they produce. Especially the haters) but they are not be able to work at even 30% capacity due to beurocracy, red taping and several other reasons that is outside the intellectual knowledge of haters to understand. It will take time but surely I see it happening. We need to focus on development from the core and from every angle of our country. Nepalese who earn abroad need to invest in the country, why foreigners lol ? We need to start making differences as individuals, if we do 100% Nepal will prosper.

Middle east and malaysian laborers are underappreciated. This group remit $9 billion annually. What do we do: empty rastra bank to $$ to educate and stay overseas.
The way fighting among oli, Prachanda, makune, jhale, bamdev on left and Deuba, sitoula, Mr prakash on the right, excluding madhesi, rapapa neta haru, I don't see any beginning of serious development.

Another thing need to consider is how is Nepal going to ship out mass production of products. The cheapest route is ocean and Nepal got none. Still have to rely on nebouring countries. And when its matter of competition they will do anything to make sure we can't compete.
