dear sjhaites, after hearing/ reading a lot of arguments about king vs. democracy i have decided to be on the royalists side to see from their perspective just in case if i'm not seeing what the royalists are seeing: 1. king is the unifying entity of Nepal without him nepal will have no identity, in other words India will take over just like sikkim. 2. King is king. they were the ones (royals) that have the credit of bringing nepal into existence. 3. political leaders are all corrupt. so king is better than them. and about the kind of money he makes he deserves it because he is king, hello! 4. because of maoist insurgency king and his RNA are the only hope for a secure and peaceful nepal. 5. nepali people are mostly uneducated (large rural population) so even if we have a democratic system they will not be able to make the right decision. please all refute or support the above arguments.

Birbhadra, greetings! I read ur message in sajha couple of times but never geta a chance to reply.Aja exam sakiyo.Iam replying your thread.First I wanna make clear Iam an independent individual i.e neither the supporter of the most corrupt dictator ,Gyanendra nor failed politician aftermath 0f 1990.I wanna agree and disagrre with u in couple of ways. Agree: Politician are corrupt reality:I do agree with you.Poloticians are corrupt in Nepal .But it is not the outcome of democracy.we have corruption from the very begining. But the politicians being very myopic, they decided to get advantage of the post aftermath of democracy. There were more corruption before 1990 .But we didnot know because there were no transparency of the system and press freedom. At least in the democracy we know, who else has done more corruption. Can u tell me ,how much gyanendra and his army has corrupted after feb 2001??How corrupted is Nepal Army-one of the terrorist organization. donot agree:I donot agree Nepal exists because of the king.Because we taught wrong histry.whatevr u taught in the childhood u learn the same.More over,U should be thankful to Bir Bhakti thapa,Balabhadra Kuwar and some company for the existance of Nepal .There are more country in the world which exists today without king more than king and doing well.look at the saarc regiion,Bangladesh,Pak ,Srilanka they don't have king.India has not captured them????? Why ????? your argument doesnot have weight. One morething, for every new system, you need some practice and knpowledge. For example If u buy a new TV or a computer,u are not perfect at the begining. It takes a time to know the system.Democracy is just like that.Over a period u will get used to.Look at the histry of U..S and India as well. I wanna ask u a final question my dear friend what is difference between Maoist and RNA.Raping child and women and kidnaping people ,Killing and torchuring in whatever way they want are the trade mark of RNA.What is difference between RNA"s Act and Terrorist. Finally ,let's supprt a free and a peaceful Nepal without any dictator and make RNA not a terrorist organization but for the people and by the people.

The argument that is again and again put for a rescue of Monarch in Nepal is, "India will take over Nepal like it did to Sikkim if Nepali Monarch is to be abolished." I wonder if Nepali Monarch is some kind of strategic weapon like a nuclear bomb that keeps India at bay. I understand, no matter how badly Pakistan annoys India, India will will hesitate to invade Pakistan because if it does, along with milliions of Pakistanis, millions of Indians too will die. So the Pakistani nuclear weapons serves as a deterrent to India. It's kind of foolish to think that simply having Monarchy in Nepal will keep India at bay. If it wants it can take over Nepal no matter Nepalis have monarchy or not. If most Nepalese were ultra-devotees of monarchy (which is not the case), it might pose a some obstacle to India but still it will be a negligable obstacle.

nepali man, (nepali man here as well..) "what is difference between Maoist and RNA.Raping child and women and kidnaping people ,Killing and torchuring in whatever way" International human rights, political or whatever bodies can come to monitor RNA's activities but no formal investigation, no formal intervention can be done to the activities of Maoists dring the time of conflict.

It's rather absurd to imply that if taken over by India, Nepalese identity will be lost. There are hundreds of ethnic groups that live in different parts of India from Assam to Kashmir. From UP to Tamilnadu. I dont think Assamese have much in common with Tamils, not the language, not culture, costumes and naturally not the physical appearance. What is an Indian Identity anyway ?

Cryptonite Ok well I understand...you are more worried about passport. Dude.... if India wishes to take over Nepal. It will do so even if you and I have problem with it or not. It has capacity to do it now or later. Here I'm simply trying to expalin that having monarchy is not a deterrent to India. It can do it even if Nepal has monarch or not.

Khaobaadi ji don't u know USSR was much powerful than Afghanistan , they never suceed. USA was very powerful they never could suceed defeating vietnam. Neither will India, how powerful it is? Don't u know CIA report when in 2002 Sri Lanka was on the verge of divison and then India was warned by CIA not to let it happen coz, india would get it repercussions back, I agrree India can take over Nepal in one day, do you know the repercussion, it will be disaster to India. Otherwise India could have done way back, khaobaadi ji. yes I agree with your point Nepal is n't soverign economically. And now coming down to King, definitely he is a deterrent to India, remeber its not a individual but the whole moanrchy system that plays a vital role . Politicians they would have sold country long back would have made Nepal similar to bhutan, whose only resposibility is to vote in favour of India , how silly the resolution is in United Nation.

Birbhadra, after so many discussions about the monarchy in Nepal, and the reasons you have presented to support the king proves that you are kukurko puchhar which never gets straightened...monarchy itself is not a burden to the country provided it knows what a good monarch should be like. In other terrorrist-hit countries, its the government who initiates the ceasefire and peace process but its irony that its happening just opposite in our country. The so called terrorist announces ceasefire and the government gives damn about it....Its clear peace is none of the business of the king despite he doesn't get tired citing this word. Nepal will cease to exist without monarchy...this is the only gayatri mantra you royalist have to chant....you are all a scare-crow (bukhyacha).Nepali_man has well said that neighboring countries Maldives, Shrilnaka, Bangladesh are still independent, despite they have no king. And cryptonite, you said you hate holding an Indian passport but how about holding American, UK, Australian...? Here in USA, I see that most of us are craving for an American greencard and ultimately a passport, aren't we? Then what happened to our nationalism?
