What happens if your passport is expired but you are in status? Any problem with getting the passport? I heard it does not make any difference. Any information?

One of my friend forgot about his passport expiration date. When he remembered, it was already expired 2 months before. But, still he sent the passport for renew and there was no problem in renewing. So I assume there should be no prblem with already expired passport.

You are supposed to get it renewed 6 months prior to the old passport expiration. I got in a lot of trouble with the port of entry people because of this. Also, the DC embassy is pretty incompetent. You need to call and remind them a few times before they get it back to you.

You should be in valid visa status. If not then you are in trouble.

My passport expired last year in august and I've not renewed it. But my status is fine. When I inquired with few people then, I learned that as long as I am in status in this country, it is fine and I can make Nepali passport at my leisure. I am about to send my passport for renewal in a week or so. Is there some kind of fine? Are there other problems that I can face from immigration or nepal embassy? Few people told me it is fine as long as I am in status. Please someone who has been thru this or who has idea about it explain this to me. Thanks in advance.

The USCIS has just stamp my Passport as a green card ( my old green card expired and new green card is in the process) so they just stamp my passport for the time being, and at the mean time my Passport is expired and needs to be renewd and if they do not send me my old Passport after giving me the new one. I think I will be in trouble, what should I do ??? It might take about six month to get a new green card as they told me.

Dalli, They will return your old passport. Be sure to pay enough return postage charges that weighs for two passport. You may rather pick up a flat-rate priority/express envelop and put a prepaid stamp on it.

I hated so much when I sent my PP to DC few years back. I called and incompetent A$$ couldn't tell me anything. It was already two weeks and FEDEX receipt showed that it was delivered there and the jack A$$ had no clue where the PP was. Finally after a month I got my PP back. Next time I sent my PP to NY and man...man...the guy was very helpful. I forgot all about DC. I have Blue PP now....please don't think I am bragging but I am happy that I don't have to deal with Nepali Embassy anymore. Peace Out Ram Prasad

I need some good information for my close friend here in NY urgently to obtain a Nepali passport for his Nepal-born child for his family visit to Nepal for this Dashain and Tihar. The child came here on her mother's passport 4 yrs ago when she was only 10 months old. Mother's passport is still valid for one more yr. To travel in these 3 months, the child now nearly 5 yrs old needs her own separate passport. The NY consulate website is not clear who and how the application should be done and who should sign the application. The child bears only her Birth Registration Certificate issued by the Municipality instead of her Nepali citizenship. Would this birth registration suffice or there are other things required? Here is what the NY consulate website details: - http://www.visi.com/~shah/cgi- bin/embassy/resources/application_form_for_passport.pdf 6. For inclusion of your child's name in your passport, please include additional US $ 25.00 for each child and provide the following in a separate application addressed to the Embassy: (i) full name of the child (ii) sex (iii) date and place of birth (iv) copy of birth certificate (v) two photographs, (size 2"x2") and (vi) copy of father's passport (page no. 1, 2, and 3) as a proof of Nepalese citizenship. Parents may apply for individual passport for their child by filling-out an application form with all the information and documents as mentioned above. A child, whose father is not a citizen of Nepal, is not eligible to obtain Nepali passport. Has somebody here undergone similar situation for obtaining the Nepali Passport for the child? Please provide some help. I would really appreciate the expert suggestions.
