you know, this thread owner has a valid point. Sajha has gone commercial..and eventhough San, i'm sure have struggledfinancially back in the days keeping sajha alive.. nowadays the way the ads are placed right under our nose tells me without a doubt he wants to make money from our nepali "shajha chautari ma basne manasthiti".
Though is not wrong to make money, we should acknowlege what it is. San is a business man.he is doing a karma, but not a selfless karma.

3) cost to maintain the site
4) designer's and other crews salary

comes out to be $10,000 per month.

Assume there are 1000 members visiting for FREE. so it comes out to be 10 box per person per month, if there are no ads.

Ok give me your 10 box for this month then.

look, i understand economics.. i am saying what it is... everyone praises San here as if he is a god. I am only saying he is a businessman.He is simply that. I never said what he did was wrong.. but he is not a selfless social activist that care for nepal.

u know, its like mcdonald sponsoring heart attack clinics or some credit card donating portion of your investment when you buy something from them.

just look at the sajha kurakani page.. there are 15 ads around the page itself.And not satisfied, Sans drops additional ads in the middle of the kurakani discussion as if its part of the thread . thats sleezy.

That bothering part is your problem, in my few cents..mate there are other things to be bothered of, ask moneyminded and he will give ya the answers...

thats business man.....you need to learn how to grow in business. as long as it is serving and catering service for the customers, what is wrong in being more lucrative. we don't spend a penny in visiting and writing stuffs here. why should we be bothered?


as for the drinking goes, sure pal anytime. if you live in texas that too where i m , you can stop by, there are still some more beers left in the freeze :) let's have a party together.. :)

arent u paying for internet, computer, cybercafe time? without it u couldnt acess sajha..and without you sajha would fail?

there are tons of free sites on the web where ads arent so intrusive.
anyway, i am not picking on San.
i just wish he would make money tastefully.

nothing wrong with that. If I were him, I would post more flyers and promotional ads :P. I think I would care less about people and think about the profit from something where i put my sweat and time on.

I have been visiting sajha regularly since 2002 and it was not at all commercial back then. Looks like things have changed since then and now. If there is opportunity to make money who wouldn't do it. I'm not complaining though. I have my share of fun here and that's all i care for right now.

San probably hosts sajha.com and related sites on ix webhost (usually advertised on top right corner) and does not maintian his own servers. So the cost of (1) (2) and (3) are probably less than $500.

- it says the cost is about $20 per month.

For (4) - I do not know how many people San employs other than himself and how much he pays them. Assuming it is just San - that $9500 per month.

Now the question is - is sajha.com and San worth it? To me they are. I leave other people to their own judgements.

To the people who are really bothered by ads - use firefox and install ad-block extension and block everything on the page that you don't like.

I personally am not bothered by the ads, as of now - I should add. It goes with the scenary.

Bhusan - No, I am not saying San earns $9500 from sajha.com. He might - but thats another matter.

Loote did a (indirect) valuation of sajha.com at $10,000. Based on his list and other resources - the salary of designer and crews should be $9500. So I am merely assigning dollar figures to the items on his list based on his total figure of $10000.

BTW - I am not discouraging you from starting a website. You might even be able to get the sajha disaffected to move to your site. Judging by the kurakani - there are a lot of those in sajha. People who want more politics, people who want less, people who want more gossip, more of this and more of that etc.

To get me to move might be difficult - I like sajha.

Once again I say, San is Overdoing this ad thing. Honestly, personally for me, if it wasnt so intruding, i would have click in some of his ads. Now, i'm very carefully not hitting even one.

Hey, the thing is... lets look at the whole picture.Most of us respect San.. A lot of people even call him San dai. I appreciate his work here, No doubt. "Sajha" layout is so simple, and intimate. For just being a resistered user, one is transformed from a NOBODY into SOMEBODY with just a few words.Great ego boost for us immigrants (yes, it includes you "khaire" green card holders , and you nepalis who were born here but find yourself somewhere in atlantic/pacific ocean). There is a reason why its popular.

San,i'm ok with 14-15 ads in and around the kurakani page.. but desist from mixing ad into the kurakani thread. Its irritating!!

badarni kt is looking for a guy for bihe. She knows she is like badarni and guys wont come to her unless she says she has enough money and she is lazy that means she would be free all day and night for her buda. :)
