Ashu-you are simply great.can sell your arguement. There are few others who produce logic based on their beliefs to certain political beliefs and calim himslef/herself as they were representing voice of Nepal and Nepali.

Thanks ashu for correcting it. I was actually going to say as well what you just said: we should show some appreciation for the people, rather than just demanding more with high expectations. I feel that it's good for the country as people like him returned Nepal and are contributing. It helps alot. I don't know whether he's a good orator or not; whether he's a good politican or not; whether he possess good moral character or not. But he's contributing more to nepalese society than all of us. It's good for him as well, I guess. It gives more satisfaction with the benefit of recognition in that trade-off. I don't know whether Minendra Rijal wrote Deuba's speech or not, and I don't know how fallacious and unconvincing it is. In that case, it's Deuba who earns more credits for that.

Bathroomcoffee,
How about getting your facts straight about what Oprah Winfrey and her show stand for before putting it in the same level as Jerry's? I won’t be a wee bit surprised to see you compare .
There is more to it than just glamour. Ever heard of Oprah's angel network? The school that she recently opened for unprivileged girls in Africa? The amount of charity work she does? The number of lives she touches every single day through her show and outside of it ? She’s not only the one of the wealthiest and well paid women in Hollywood but also the most contributive towards the deprived masses. Do you even watch her show at all? Ever cared to witness her totally selfless philanthropic nature full of humility which is equally tangible as it is visible in her show and elsewhere? Do you know what many pajama they collected yesterday in the show itself for the children under foster care in Boston yesterday? Do you have any idea what so ever about how many lives she has renewed over the years for the better? I don’t think so. So tell you what!! Enjoy YOUR Jerry and leave the Oprah thread alone.

One of the many things that I admire about Ashu is, he's never sort of crediting people who deserve to be applauded. In my honest opinion, that's a sign of a true scholar and an intellectual that many of us so-called educated Nepalese, be it in Nepal or outside, sadly, don't possess!

LooTe

As far as Nepali is concerned I think it should be pradeep Giri . In English it should be King Gyanendra particularly after his speech in SAARC and how he challanged India and other neighbour not to interfere with Nepal's internal matter.

ShikariShambuji...
no i am not paschim.Sorry for not replying in another thread.I am from Kathmandu but have travelled Nepal not like typical kathmandubasi who normally do not cross thankot.
i haven't travelled to far western region but been to western region.

Sher bahadur might be joker or whatever people wanna call him but this is my personal opinion that guy is honest from his heart.I know he has been charged of corruption but i sense somekind of honesty in his chracter unlike girija and commie gang.people who can speak is certainly an advantage that is why we see lot of commies ahead in the game.We see thousands of kids working for maoist.

I do not have that much of oppourtunity to personally interact with any leaders but on basis of how I have heard, Pradip Giri is obviously the best. I find Hridayesh Tripathy, and Sambhu Thapa also very good in orating ability.

Invitation to a workshop in Columbia University this Friday.

---------------------------------------------------

SIPA, Columbia University

Invites you to a
Workshop:

“Constituent Assembly, Constitutional Process and the Building of a Democratic State in Nepal”

Hosted by Prof. Jenik Radon

Date: Friday, April 13, 2007
Time: 1:30 – 6:30 pm
Venue: Columbia University Law School
435 West 116th Street at Amsterdam Ave, New York, NY 10027
Room JG-101

Exactly one year after the signing of the 12 point agreement reached between the Maoists and the Seven Party Alliance the two sides signed a comprehensive peace agreement on November 16, 2006. The events that led to this accord were launched by the people’s movement in April 2006 and are truly historic. With the signing of the agreement, the cease fire became permanent and finally the UN assisted with the arms management - two key issues that leveled the ground for implementing the peace agreement and for the peaceful construction of a stable democracy in Nepal.

Another key issue was the passing of the Nepal Citizenship Act 2006, whereby all those born in Nepal before the second week of April 1990 are to be given citizenship under certain conditions. This would help thousands of formerly stateless people to exercise their rights and to fulfill their obligations as citizens of Nepal.

However, there are many challenges the Nepalese people have to tackle before and also after the elections to the Constituent Assembly officially still set for June 2007. With an interim parliament and an interim constitution in place, the country is still facing serious questions as to how to provide for inclusion and equal representation of all ethnic and other groups, clarify the separation of powers, and many more issues.

In order to discuss and find solutions for some of these challenges we cordially invite you to join us for the first of a series of workshops entitled “Constituent Assembly, Constitutional Process and the Building of a Democratic State in Nepal”. Our goal is to analyze some of these questions, how they impact the Nepalese people and to draft working papers on these issues so as to contribute to the democracy process in Nepal.

As we are aiming for a concentrated and result-oriented working seminar, we encourage people truly committed to the cause of the democracy process in Nepal to sign up for this workshop.

Since there will be a limited number of seats, please RSVP to
Jasmine Henz (jh2698@columbia.edu)

and for questions, please contact
Prof. Jenik Radon (jr2218@columbia.edu)
or Jasmine Henz (jh2698@columbia.edu).
